wouldnt the vcu come in the box baz? or is it sold seperatley?

I think it would be a stock box anyway-just new. then you can get rid of your locked centre too:cool:

the albins box wasnt assembled right they built the box to ,to much pre load on the centre plate and punched the bearings through.i own a ppg and drive it no way i would have it in a street car ,the parr box with 5gears upgraded centre diff ready to back in the car high 7s its the only high powerd gear set with syncros on the market and u can deal with them in oz

My box should be back together next weekend with the modified preloads too Barry. I'll let you know how it goes as well mate. Assembling the sticks correctly was pretty bloody easy :)

theres nothing wrong with apc i do all my own work and they still help me out rob and nick r champs, thats what it costs to do it properly if u dont no how to do it ur self

$400 just to install a walbro pump onto a factory cradle (20minutes for a first timer). they are overpriced and don't do very good work In my opinion, and there are other members on here who will agree with me.

i do most of the work myself after the incident at apc...what i can't do I get the guys locally to give me a hand.

I'm sorry tim :) I've done venting now, sorry baz, back on topic

teamrip and jacks trans in the USA build some strong boxes

Just stumbled on this place too! http://www.dogboxracing.com/Transmissions-DSM-AWD.html

Pic of what a gearbox looks like doggy style :)

with the dog box you also need to take into account that you will need a really light flywheel and clutch, I drove a dc5 type r recently with a dog box and stock flywheel and clutch and it was fairly difficult to shift up but a dream to shift down when match revving.

hey mate my ppg box is a bitch for going slow ,im about to install a parr street gear set into my street car cause i snapped my input shaft clean off at the fly wheel ,,and going to run E85 so should be chasing round 520hpw + im all andra spec to run 10s so i can let u no how it goes ,just dont touch albins peice of s#*t lost 9k because they didnt assemble it right and they dont give any warrenty.nicks black evo 3 runs 7s worlds fastest they run ppg 4 speed custom ratio same as whats in my fwd drag car .we looked at building an auto but u cant make them strong enough to run into the 9s

i wouldnt say that false statement to loud lol... autos are alright, but for the drag strip, not the street..

It depends whether you really want to go dog box or not I guess Barry. Are you going to be street driving it more or drag racing? You might also want to have a chat to twicks69 over at dsmtuners. His name is Tim Zimmerman and he runs a 9 sec 2g that he runs a syncro'd stock style box in. http://www.tmzperformance.com/index.html

If you are going to be doing a lot of street driving a dog box is going to suck. If you just want to drag race it then go for it.

For your power level I really do think that you can build a stock type box that will work, of course anything can and will break!

Tim Zimmerman, i would doubt what rpms he does up to.. The problem with the manual boxes are the syncros can not cope with the grunt and rpm at drag racing, and thats when the dog box comes into play. Shifting gears on a dog box at high rpm is like pushing a hot knife through butter..Easy to change gears. You just have to prepare your rpm when shifting in street conditions. I did for 2 years. Ask Frank-e, i took him for a spin in my car when it had the dog box.

Plus look at Tims times compared to the turbo he is running when the times were made. There is still alot more potential. Which means he is not thrashing that box to get the max potential. Im not in the car with him, but id say his shifting is easy between gears.

So for back on topic comment, its your call bazeng. Dog box for no problems on strip, but learn hot to shift at rpms on the street or, keep the syncrod box for street ease, but run the risk of damaging syncros at hi rpm shifts. When i mean hi shifts, im talking max 7.5k.

Well, I guess so as he is a member here and does rebuild boxes for a living I believe.
I think it was Rob that actually invited him over here.

Also, I shift mine at 8000. Stock unopened box too. Was great till 1st gear destroyed itself! Never missed a shift and it goes in smooth every time. I put a big part of that down to the QM twin plate and not having any clutch drag at high RPM.
Personally I'd love a dog box but I can't justify that sort of outlay on a VR4.

How ofter do we have to freshen up the dog box?
I don't want to be pulling it down every 5000 - 10000km's.

Every 50000km's would be ok!
