Hi guys,

I built a short shifter last night (yet to test it though) and I was wondering if any of you guys have replaced the plastic bushes in the shifter before and if so, where did you get them from?

I want to get rid of all the side to side slop in the shifter.
I already have aluminium base bushes and brass cable bushes.

The ones that I'm really after are the ones for this joint. I don't want to put the shifter back in with the original bushings because they are so far gone.

Also, does anyone know where to get "heim joints" from? (Click on the link below)
Or what else could be used instead of the crappy plastic joints these cars have from factory?

Looks fairly straightforward tbh. Could be done with a bench drill and a vice and some cutting compound?

What are you referring to mate?
Making the bushes?
Maybe scrap that first photo, it wasn't actually mine, I stole it from another forum.

I need the glacier type bush (the blue) one in the following pic. (Excuse the brightness, I just wanted to make sure you guys could see it in detail)
I got the metal ones this arvo and am gonna try them out, but they are imperial and I don't think they will fit nicely.
Will let you guys know.

Does anyone know where to get the blue one shown in the pic? (Preferably metal)
ID:12mm
Wall thicknees:1.35mm
OD:14.7mm (15mm is even better)
Flange dia:19.5mm (20mm, or whatever really, not that critical)

It looks like this is the most common bush in the shifter. There are six of them altogether. Surely someone has replaced them before?

Nah, the metal ones don't fit. Well they're loose, and that's what I'm trying to eliminate.
Actually, I think the plastic ones will be better for this.
Mitsubishi should have them, or be able to get hold of them hey?
Might try them tomorrow.

they rose joints mate. You can get them from most fastener shops. They're pretty expensive, esp for quality ones (read NOT CHINESE) at about $25 a piece.

I bought some of those blue ones new from Mitsi years ago Mo. About $5 each I think which is a bloddy rip off but what can you do. I would love to buy a mini lathe just to turn this sort of stuff up on.
The other thing I had to do to take some of the sideways slop out was to bend the spring which centres the lever to put more preload on it.
I think I still have another vr4 shifter at home as well if you want to see if the bushes in it are any good.

I got new bushes from mitsubishi a early last year, the cost me $60 so dont be shocked. just the 4 in the shifter thats it....

Thanks for the replies guys.

The part number is below for anyone that may need them in future.

And this is why I wanted to avoid going genuine...

For all 4 as a kit or something????

Now you tell me! :p

Hahaha, nah thats cool man. I didn't know you could discount genuine parts/prices?
Anyway, I was going to order some more for my other VR4 cos the guy on the phone had a really thick accent I thought he said $2.13 (I was gona get like 20 (!) so that if anyone else on here needed them) but I got to the store and the other chap said $22.13. I'm like wtf, I drove all the way so I didn't wanna go empty handed.

i think i need to replace the spring in mine, doesn't seem to spring back to centre very well...

Don't get me started Craig! lol
I spent so long this arvo trying to get mine to return nicely and in the centre...was giving me the shits, deadset, I spent about three/four hours trying to get the thing right going backward and forwards.
The shifter now feels HEAPS better but I won't know for sure until I put it back in the car and get the gearbox back in.
I hope I got the stops right, I just tried to measure the stock throw and go by that...

Hey LWNSLW, the mitsi guy said that there are 7 bushes altogether for the VR4 shifter.

MB580253 (x4) - these are the blue ones in the pics
MB367320 (x2)
MB307949 (x1)

Lol, yeah there used to be. I went there this morning and found empty buildings with over grown weeds. Looks like a ghost town.
So yeah, I wasn't sure where the next closest one was so I went to Toowong.

To get mine to centre properly, I bushed the shaft that the springs contact with and bent the springs to preload them better.
