Hi all after some honest advice from you guys.

I have the opportunity to buy a 93 SSG that has been run out of oil and the motor seized. It has 200 ks, Auto Body and interior is in great condition. I can get it for cheap.

I was considering using it as a parts car for my HSG, as so many components are similar, but have been entertaining the notion of rebuilding it.

I have not rebuilt a car engine since I was 17 and that was a Holden Red motor, so I realise it would be a great deal different. Most of my experience is with motorbike engines and with a 4g Im not sure I would be well enough equipped or experienced. In an ideal world I would have the SSG as my thrasher and the HSG as the hills car and my GSXR 750 for my lunacy fix.

Do I need to pull the motor out of the car to do a rebuild? Seeing as its been run out of oil would the bottom end/top end and gearbox need doing? Is this going to be a money pit?

Thanks guys and Happy Easter!

Run out of oil = not good.

Seized engines will need some $ put into them, you'll have to remove the engine and probably have some machining to do at the very least. The turbo is probably boned as well. Not worth the effort IMO.

Gearbox is separate and has it's own oil, should be fine.

SSGs don't have any engine parts worth a crap anyway, tiny turbo, small TB, crap intercooler etc. HSGs on the other hand...........

Is it auto or manual? Stripping it for parts/panels/handles/glass/lights/diff/transfer case etc might be worth it if you have a place to store bits.

Thanks for the responses. I think it could possibly be good as a parts car. I will have a look at it tomorrow and should have a better idea.
