Here is one laying on bench.

Um I think it should be no1 firing on tdc? Vr401?
Align your cam gear dots horizontal towards each other for no1 firing (and away for no4 firing)

The HSG RVR's have a CAS on the back of the head, which AFAIK is different to all the other 4G63s.

What I am trying to work out is what way it goes into the back of the cam? One cut out is smaller than the other so I am pretty sure they would have to go in a certain way.

Also, I called it a CAS pickup but I am not sure that is the right name for it.

Will your timing light pick up the injector pulses? If so put it on injector 1 and look at cam gear dots.

It will have the same orientation as a evo 4-9 exhaust cam sensor.
I have some bits in shed, I will look in morning and post pic.

Can you post pic of the sensor housing? I want one.

Here it is. Scroll down to the pics at bottom. The bottom pic one is a trigger wheel. Next pic up is same as yours other is same but mounted under intake cam wheel. But you can see they are same notches.
Cant quite see it but your second pic should show the tdc mark on the side facing camera, in the gap and slightly left of the centre of the gap. (Actually opposite of the rising section of the long segment) if that makes sense.

If not, mark where the pickup is and take a pic of the chopper installed at tdc and I will tell you of its 180 out

Thanks for all that info Jack, I am sorry I forgot to get a picture, I will get one when I go back out to the garage.

So I fitted the replacement coil pack which works but doesn't really fit only to realize I have a vacuum leak at the intake manifold, does anyone know the part number for the intake gasket? I have found them on ebay but $70+ seems a bit excessive for a single gasket.

Also, the car seems to run better with the MAF disconnected, so I will have to sort that out now as well.

Almos there!

Pull manifold off, give it a spread of silicone (thin like vegemite) and poke it back on. Sweet.

Or cut one from cardboard and silicone on.
Or, buy a thermal barrier and silicone that on.

I ran my 93t on hyundai excel coils for a bit. They were cable tied in place. As long as you arent pushing it home.

Might be just me....I would rather do it properly, than having to patch it up and then have to do it all over again down the track?
No offence to you intended either way mate.

I reckon the part in question is a "cam position sensor" .. just like in a later model Evo. Yes there is a correct alignment. The larger / wider part faces mostly forward at TDC for #1 cylinder... if it is any thing like an Evo

 it worked Jack! Thanks heaps mate.

It was running great until I realised I had left out that ring spacer that goes in between the turbo and exhaust manifold which led to the turbo gasket blowing out, so I will have to order another one.

Thanks guys.
