I recently replaced my 14b which had bad cracks/holes and wasnt producing full boost till 4500rpm.

Picked up a small 16g - no cracks - new manifold - wastegate shutting properly etc. and it still wasnt hitting full boost till 4500 rpm.

checked timing belt - exhaust was 1 tooth out - so replaced belts . and guess what - still slow to spool up.

Have done intake leak test - no leaks. have disconnected wastegate - have blocked BOV - and still slow to spool. have checked timing - have datalogged .. no apparent problems. wastegate moves freely.

help.. its really got me stumped. Its definitely better than it was. but i should still be spooling quicker..

:?:

might pay to get under the car and tap the CAT. it may have collapsed?

what are you using for boost control?

What is 'full boost' ? factory or a bit higher?

full boost was 15 on the 14b - now down to 12 for the 16g. was maxing out the injectors higher.
boost control was a turbotech controller - currently running a straight line from the intake to wastegate. (no difference either way. even with the wastegate disconnected)

would a collapsed cat still flow well above 4500?

Try disconnecting the hose to the wastegate actuator and wire the wastegate flap closed nice and tight. If this helps things, then it is your actuator which isn't holding the wastegate flap closed properly.

rob you are a king.. the wastegate actuator rod was bent slightly..

12psi at 3500 rpm now.. feels like the front wheels are going to lift

thanks for all the help guys. as a bonus have fixed all the other leaks and things i have been putting off :D

so you had two totally different problems, one on each turbo, but both resulted in the same symptom, go figure :?
