Diamonds are forever....
Hey guys- I just took a look at this car:

I've seen it around at my local shops, yes it is a genuine pre-facelift RS- with a REP vin number, done through the VIC loophole back in the day.
The (lady) owner is genuine, and has had the car for 8 years- she bought it off a guy in Geelong who is into rallying. Its been serviced by Officer Smith (another rally guy IIRC- (03) 9329 9973) and has had the cambelt replaced at 220,000kms (currently at 228,000). The car is dead stock, and she is moving to Dubai to be with her husband. She was happy that the car has made it to $1000 already.
Mechanically the car is in fine for its age. The rocker cover is gone, and is leaking oil all over the show, especially on the turbo feed/C.A.S side. There's also a coolant leak coming from the water feed (I think). No bubbles in the coolant when i topped it up though. Oil looked nice and clean- starts, idles and revs nicely- boost comes on nice and strong, and actually goes surprisingly well for the overall condition the car is in. Car steers in a straight line, and brakes work fine (single pots) and the gearbox shifts nicely.
The build plate is missing.
It must have a dual board ECU because my logger couldn't communicate.
The body and interior especially is a different story. Its definately showing its age, and that its been owned by a woman. (no offence mum) There's no wonder she didn't post any pics of the left hand side on ebay though, as you can see in my pics.
There's been a fairly hefty ding in the rear bumper, which has caused the boot to rise up. The drivers side wing mirror is missing a screw and is loose- both have replaced with white ones (usually black on the RS)
The door trims are faded, as you'd expect. Arial is in need of attention, the paint isn't the best (might have had a respray on the front)
The carpet needs to be removed, or replaced- there's holes in the driver and passenger front. Carpet is loose in the rear also. Dashboard is bubbling, along with the clock. I fixed the electrical problem (indicators werent working- fuse) but the dash lights still dont work. KM's look to be genuine- all the numbers line up perfectly. The ECU kick panel is missing. There's no stereo, but there's a pair of 2-way 6" speakers in the parcel tray. RS door trims are o.k, just a couple worn where the door lock popper is.
All in all, its not a bad car, and only for $1000 at the moment, its still not a bad deal. It would be a shame to see such a rare car end up as parts, but if you could get it for under a couple of grand then it might be worth it, as it's going to take a bit of work (panel and paint) to get it tidy again. Interior, well you can get that fairly cheap these days, but if you were me i'd just rip it all out to keep the true RS feel to it.
Feel free to ask anymore questions
