guys this problem is doing my head in, my starter moter is not meshing right to the flywheel, it still starts the the car but very noisy and clunkinggggg. ive changed the starter moter, yes its the right one, yes its throwing out proply, yes its got the orginal bolts, WAT CAN IT BE, ring gear looks ok and i can see were the starter moter is just hitting it, metal shavings have come off but not that bad, oww yeh bye the why its a lancer gsr with a vr4 2 litre conversion, eny one else had the same problem? this has never happend to me before so im lost... give me some ideas cheers guys

I've had a similar problem. Just had to adjust the 2 bolts that bolt starter to bell housing. I have a ggsr motor with lgsr box. U need to line it up right :)

u need A new flywheel. They have to be pretty good nick to work I have been through this before. Also make sure your gearbox locating lugs are still there and in good nick if they are not there this will also cause this. They often break after hitting big bumps or hard launches. Its a vr4 gearbox thing. They only have 4 bolts to hold the box on. One is a pissy little bolt so they all have to be spot on. People often leave out that little bolt at the back and that can also lead to the front bolt snapping so check them all

It sounds like it is not sitting flush. Ensure the gearbox is up hard against the block and also ensure that the starter is sitting flush against the sandwich plate.
