Hi folks,

My car would not start so after a conversation with some mates we think it could be the starter motor so have searched the encyclopedia of Google/ youtube and thought I would give it a go at cleaning it as there was nothing wrong with it when I pulled it apart just 20 years of grime.

I have done this over the last 3 weeks and am about to finish putting it together when I was left with a spare washer and question about the solenoid.
First:

This washer:

Does it go into this cap?

Finally:

The brown paste on the bottom of this, Is it grease? do I need to replace it? I didn't think you put grease into this part which slips into the solenoid?

id agree that the wave washer goes in the bottom of the housing, it will stop the bearing running on the housing.
not sure what the other bit is. is it the plunger that goes in the solonoid? and it has the throw out fork on it? if so then clean old grease off and replace with wheel bearing grease, just a bit to lubricate and protect

its in the engine electrical manual, from here

page 33-40.
i know its gsr not vr4, but a starter is a starter is a starter.
if cant get it, pm me your email and i will send you the bit you need.

Excellent champ,
Reckon I have it on pg16-36 it is part# 8 if you compare with 16-35 part #8 you can see the bearing has a washer attached. They have just missed it.
Thanks again for your help jack, you rock.
