hey guys,

my car is up to the stage where i can crank it now and start it but i cant get my starter motor to kick in. the injectors and pump and everything else makes the right noises but the starter just wont kick in.

i replaced the engine loom and the loom for the blinkers and everything else cause mines rooted and i did a battery to boot and used a distributor block in the engine bay for the alternator and starter.

im not sure if that has affected anything. any help would be great.

does the starter motor have a fuse in the fuse box? cause it says it has one on the cover but it doesnt have it in the fuse box. not sure if its ment to have one.

thanks guys.

Make sure you have these things in place:
1. A massive earth wire from neg battery terminal to the gearbox or engine block, and eather wire from neg battery to boddy of the car.
2. A massive big wire from the pos battery terminal to the top stud on the starter solenoid.
3. A small wire to the starter solenoid spade terminal, which is the start signal from the ignition key, probably via a relay. Test this with a multimeter, or see that the relay is clicking when you try to crank.
4. Check you have a good 12v at the battery, and battery is charged.

If the starter signal is good to the starter, and the battery is good. Then its time to check the starter itself.

i think i found the problem,

my trigger wire has nothing to connect to, its a plug with a black wire/ yellow stripe and black wire / white stripe.

both are around the same thickness, one end connects to the top of the starter but i dont know where the plug end goes to.

ill try to post some pics.

its a bitch to see the spade connector (its actually on the starter motor facing passenger side) even with a good light and a telescopic mirror but once found you can put it on by feel, just remove the earth on the battery first just in case ;)

along the drivers side chassis rail about above the gearbox you should find a plug for that to connect to. its black and only pokes out of the harness 30/40mm
