Starting a 4 month stagnant engine

Hi guys,

I am starting my baby up after 4 months and not a single degree of rotation inside...

what should i do?

I guess i gotta prime it...

First things first, drain it...

New oil + Filter...

check the plugs...


what else?

also, what advice does anyone have for 'running it in' so to speak... having not cranked it for 4months and the battery disconnected for the same period...


My mate is gonna grab me some acclaimed "SUBARU UPPER ENGINE CLEANER" from work to flood the intake with...

I have never had to do this, and i am in the dark...

and i dont wanna hurt my baby =(

After 4 months, you shouldnt still have a problem

Maybe just unplug the ignitor and give it a crank

the plug it back in and start it

yeh i was just reading on this website (http://beckracingengines.com/performance/index.php?cPath=124&main_page=index) about how to start a new engine, and one point was disable ignition and crank for 30 seconds to get some oil pressure... or alternatively prime it manually with a drill.. cbf tryna get to my HB...

I think i will just drain it, flush it, prime it and crank it, then fresh fuel and a few runs up and down the freeway in 2nd gear to give it a good blow out

wouldn't hurt to crank it over with the ignitor un-plugged first tho

mine was sitting around for 3 1/2 months not running and with a cracked ring landing, started first time after that once i charged the battery.

as others have said 4 months isnt that long.

I think the most damage that has been done is some life taken from every trim & piece of upholstery in the car, having sat in some REDICULOUSLY hot days... my P plates melted in my dads car the other day... Im sure something i have forgotten is no longer what it used to be... meh

Should i drain the shi7 fuel in it? its BP98 from the same length of time ago...

Leave the oil that is in there, in there. Crank it with no ignition for 30 seconds or so, then fire it up.
The old fuel will still let it idle fine.
Let it warm up to normal temps by idling and check all fuel and water hoses for leaks. Turn it off, let it cool abit and THEN drain the oil. That way the oil is hot and will come out better.
Then put new oil in.
If you can, drain as much of the old fuel out as possible and put new fuel in and only then would I load the engine up with boost. If everything is still ok, only then would I put anything with Subaru written on it anywhere near it.

Old fuel can be used quite happily. Just pour a bottle of octane booster down there first.

My car was sitin around for around 10 months with fuel still in there, all i did was crank it over with the ignitor unplugged and then plugged it back in and started running fine.... then took it to the servo and filled up with 98RON and went for a nice long drive around the block haha

From when I removed the motor from my rally car, to when it got fired back up again, was just over 3 years, with 3 year old fuel in the tank cause I couldn't drain it out. I expected blocked injectors and fuel pump, rough running if it finally did fire up and all sorts of other problems. I cranked it plenty with out any fuel or spark going to it and once they were reconnected, it fired up instantly and purred. It was a joyous day indeed.

Cheers matey, I like that procedure alot...

it is supported by all who said "4 months aint that long" and also sticks to the non-ignition cranking, whilst draining and replacing oil + filter & even taking consideration for the SUBARU products ;-)

If your car has been sitting around what makes you think it will need cleaning out? It probbly doesn't even need the oil changing. Subaru Upler engine cleaner is to remove the buildup of carbon from the intake of cars that have been putting around, your car will most likely not benefit much from using it.
