If I wiggle my steering rack I can hear knocking.

Does anybody else have this noise?

If it needs rebuilding have people moved to a non powered rack or have they rebulit there EVO Rack and kept the power steering.

I have a borken steering rack boot so I need to get this repaired as well. Are these the same as the normal CC lancer or are they another part?

Jack up front wheels or get a mate in the car to turn the whell full lock so you can get you hand in and grab around the tie rod end and move steerer if its the tie rod you will feel it, if not rack ends

I have one that is has been completley reco'd

Im in melb but its at APC along with the car (i have changed to mechnical rack)

If you want it pm me as i dont need it
never been driven on as the car been of the road for 6 years

Replace your tie rods and rack ends together.Tie rods are cheap.I did mine and the new car feel was great.Rack ends are a hard job to do at home though.when you get your wheel alignment make sure they dont twist your boots while making adjustments.Mine did and split the boots needing another strip down to repair. At their cost. :fuuuuu:

What is the benefit of going to a mechanical rack?

Are you tracking or just for 1/4 mile?

My car is strictly a drag car, so benifit of menchanical rack is lighter casue u remove all the power steering accessories and also i guess at high speed you have a better feel for the car.

Lots of guys have said power steering at high speeds is dangerous

For anything other than a drag car, a manual rack would be crap - especially on the track. They generally have huge ratios lock to lock and are very heavy at low speed tight corners.

hence i stayed power steering, i drove a gl with a manual rack and decided there was no way i would track with that rack and semis:thumbsdown:

Is there any difference Lock to Lock between a GSR and EVO GSR Rack?

Will they mount to the points or is the GSR rack shorter?

they mount the same i believe but the evo rack has less turns lock to lock- any length difference would be able to be adjusted out

Yeah they're all the same. FTO, mirage, lancer, satria etc etc.

I'm using genuine Satria GTi ones on my Evo rack since they were cheaper.

Just picked up some tie rod ends for $40.

Will chuck them on and see how it goes.

Thanks for everyones help.

If you end up wanting to change the rack ends, i have some at home that have got and theres no slop in them at all.
Hope im using the right words, by rack ends im refering to the long rods that screw into the steering rack, and on the other end you screwing you tie rod ends into.

Just get your EVO rack re-conditioned. Cost me about $150.
Did you know somone, all the quotes i got were around 550-600 in Perth, one bloke was 300 but not always best to go the cheapest i figured. WEnt a second hand rack instead.

But 150 to reco a rack that cheap as!

I didn't take a picture. Does the nut go on the top or the bottom when putting the tie rod end back on the hub.
