My sump plug is leaking, I know it probably just needs the washer replaced but I figure it's a good excuse to get a magnetic plug.
Does anyone know what thread size the 4g93 sump plug is?
Also is anyone running a magnet in theirs?

I did with the 4g93. Always a talking point at oil change time. Normally just covered in a grey 'mud'.

Never really did get the point of them. If it didn't fit through the strainer and stop in the filter, you no doubt have some fairly serious issues.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Same goes for magnets on oil filters I guess? Surely the filter is designed well enough to grab and hold any debris...?

Sorry guys. The filters are crap. They will be in full bypass by 5000rpm and causing a 20psi pressure drop.
So your gauge says 80psi but the first main bearing is seeing only 60psi.
There is a big kiggly write up about it on his site. Im thinking of twin z9 or z30 just to offer some filtering at full noise

Understand that, but you think a magnetic sump plug somehow compensates for that? Or you just pointing out the stock style, shitty little filters are crap.

Yeah sorry. Was off topic.
Nothing wrong with magnetic sump plugs.
I run one in the bike. They are a good tell tale.

Im also a big believer in oil sampling. I have a heap of prepaid ones. Just sample oil and drop pack in the post. Report gets emailed back in a few days.

Now that's an excellent idea!

I could imagine my report:

Dear Mr Watts,

These are your oil sample results :-
  • 22.5% = Forged alumimium (We assume this to be whats left of your pistons)
  • 16.8% = Cast iron (Parts of your block)
  • 38.5% = H20
  • 8.06% = Propylene Glyco
  • 4.03% = Cigarette Ash (We advise you not smoke while assembling engines)
  • 10.1% = Oil
Please be sure to sends us more samples, the lads in the lab haven't had that much of a laugh in ages.

Kind regards,
Your oil sampling place.
