TC 06 ( highflowed )

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

TC06 came from early turbo cordia's AA & AB models.. also early starions i think JA & JB.
I remember having great top end but bit laggy down low on a 2L SOHC.
Being highflowed should be good.. but yes older style turbos.. TCs were replaced with TD models..

i dont know much of this turbo?

how do they rate compared to a gsr or evo 1 - 3 turbo?
been highflowed also?

'Highflowed' is a common term used here in Australia- one that I wasn't accustomed to when I moved here- and everytime I asked someone who was selling a 'highflowed' turbo what was actually done to it- no one ever knew. Its a bit of a 'load of shit a.k.a wankfactor' if you ask me- be careful what you are buying.

If you are going to spend big bickies modifying a turbo, then why wouldnt you put the exact specs of it- instead of just saying 'its been highflowed'? Also- if it was really that good- why would someone be selling it? Someone could clip a turbo and say its 'highflowed' and the average joe wouldnt even know!

Its just like saying 'i'm selling a fully sick honda v-tec fully modified hecktic beast' but dont list any of its mods? Makes you kind of wonder aye!

As for the 2nd part of your question- stick to the TD series turbos mate- big16g FTW.

Figured out why your car is running shit yet? If you need some help- then dont be afraid to ask

well my turbo has been high flowed, it used to run 7psi and flow 284 cfm but then i used a boost controller and ran 12 psi and it flowed 350cfm.. sure was an easy highflow

so whats actually envolved when you "high flow" a turbo. Is it like griding the ports bigger or something? Also if you "high flow", then does that mean it will take longer to boost at low rpm but continue to push at a higher rpm?

I'd say machining housings and fitting larger wheels
Basically spot on.

"Highflowing"...so to speak, promotes greater flow or more CFM, theres only one way to do it, either change the housing, upgrade the wheels, or both.
Turbine clipping usually changes the boost curve and response rate.

To be honest, i would stick with the TD series, the 1470 on my Evo III is just fkin awesome, theyre rated at 380 hp, and theyre not laggy at all..especially on a 2L, They really are a good bang for buck unit. The TC stuff may be good, but its getting on as afr as technology goes..its just old.

Hey, I believe I can provide a couple of responses having owned both a Cordia with a TC06 and a Lancer with Evo 1 16G.

The TC06 has a shitload of top end, I always found the power delivery over 4000 rpm FAR more violent than the Evo 1 16G with the same boost (I loved the violence). That said, the 16G is less laggy and it is newer tech than the old TC turbos.

Also, with respect to the TC06 being highflowed it usually involves them adding a T3 compressor wheel to it. The TC06 was about equivalent to a T04 exhaust and T25 compressor. So if someone's saying their TC06 has been high flowed it may well have had a T3 compressor wheel stuck in it. It'll give you a bit more top end but only a couple more killawatts over the stock one.
