I'm a bit confused about what you're asking, but this is a hydraulic tensioner and if it's what you're talking about then yes!!! replace it as it is very important that it functions 100%. You can buy a new one here: http://www.meek.com.au/index.php?v=Product&id=82&pcid=9 . What sort of car is it for?

Yer sorry its a 93 gsr my bad. !! yer its the part that automatically tightens the timming belt . I heard it could be becuase of bad oil pressure or something .

Yep those tensioners are best to be replaced every time you do an engine build. Test yours by placing it into a vice and slowly closing the vice, it'll take some time to fully get the pin down and when you do, put a small screwdriver or allen key into the hole to hold the pin down. Then remove the tensioner from the vice. Now time to test it, quickly pull the screwdriver/allen key out and if the tensioner pin pops out immediately at quick speed then its working. If it doesnt pop out immediately then chuck it in the bin. I'm not sure if Meek sells ones to suit a GSR so it might be best to ask him.

very very important to replace if faulty...i had a new one fail after 5000ks....car sounded very rattly so shut it down straight away...went to turn the engine over by hand and it had locked....timing jumped 3 teeth and the valves were about to destroy themselves :?

Yay thats what happened 2 me !!!! Phewe didnt destroy my valves..... but im gonna need to find a hydraulic tensioner from somewheres for my gsr............................. i think the mitsubishi mirages have the same ones.. if not im pretty boned. LMAO .
