So today I removed the stock springs from the front of the car, and replaced them with the whitelines I bought (The whitelines were 5mm too low for roadworthiness when they settled in).

This morning when I was driving around, before the springs, if I went around a corner, even at low speeds, the tyres would squeal horribly (they are extremely cheap tyres though), also the steering felt crap, and the whole front of the car wobbled around rather frighteningly.

Now, the tyres don't squeal, the brakes feel better, and overall the car is a lot more pleasant to drive.

In conclusion, if you have the stock springs, replace them .

Additionally - if you are replacing the stock springs, get TWO sets of spring compressors, or even better, fork out for good ones. I broke a set today :D

If you own a standard car with 16 year old suspension components, I think it's a wise investment to change them
long story short, I crashed my good car (63t CB GSR), bought a replacement and am swapping bits over.
a couple of weeks ago I swapped over the Lovells springs(temporarily have pedders in the back, the lovells make it sit too high, they will be replaced soonKYB shocks and a whiteline rear sway bar, alot of the horrible body roll has reduced, but I believe changing the bush's to polyurethene makes a huge difference on how the car handles, steering respose and braking is improved. The same can be said about tyres. I would've swapped my wheels over if I didn't find a big arse nail in one. I am/was using pirelli dragon, they are very good for everyday use and the occasional spirited driving session but turn to mush after 5 or so laps at wakefield park.

but for now, my tyres still squeel.

LOL

I remember changing mine

*jase lays strut on ground, puts foot on base of strut, and rattle gun on the nut at the top*

jase's mate "are you sure thats a good idea? shouldn't you use spring compressors?"
jase "nah she'll be right"

*dadadadadadadada TWAAAAAAANNNNNGGGGGGGGGG*

...bolt literally shot off of the top and put a hole through the fence.. spring ended up about a metre away, and my arms were just shaking with the rattle gun in them

jase "hmm we'll find spring compressors for the other ones"

So you went from Whiteline lowered springs to stock springs back to the Whitelines. Did you get a wheel alignment after putting the stock springs in? If not, your toe would have been miles out and causing the tyre squeal you mentioned.

reminds me of the time we cut the springs in the front of my gemini... we couldn't get them out and didn't have a spring compressor, so we cut them while they were still on the car
there's a wee bit of tension in those puppies!
