This morning I was putting in a child-restraint anchor bolt
and saw a paint bubble (bit smaller than a 5 cent piece)
a few inches back from the front windscreen.
Looks like I've joined the Roof Rust club, so it's off to the
smash repairers next week. :(

Pull the head liner off (carefully) and take a good look yourself before you send it off- you could maybe remove the inner layer and pro-long the rust spreading abit longer

Yeah just add a window removal wire tool, and a spot welder while your at it, add a compressor and a spray gun and some red matching paint, some panel sealant, also a drill and a bunch of sharp drills.

You will need to drill all of the spot welds out of the donor turret and your own car without damaging the new good panels/ribs in the process and "ain't to*hard to DIY!"
(*if you have all the tools, skill and time and a place to carry out the work.

To keep costs down remove:
all seats (Bar drivers seat)
headlining
windscreen wipers
ceiling light and move ceiling light wires off the turret ribs down to drivers foot well.

All the above will cut the cost of a Panel joint doing the job as they will change you by the hour to do all of the above..

BTW: A new Proton Wira roof skin around the 400 mark,
turret roof ribs are around 40-55 each if you need to replace any. (Mitsu turret is around the 6-700 mark for the record)

I can manage that. Anything that saves me money = good.
Thanks for that :)

I forgot and carpet otherwise sparks from spot welds will leave tons of tiny holes all over your carpet ;)

Unless you're planning on keeping the car for the rest of your life there's a cheaper alternative.

if the rust isn't so bad you can do without having to re-weld a new roof on.

Just sand back to bare metal and get rid of all the rust with a wire brush.
rust convert it, prime it and it ready for paint!
This technique will be good for 5+ years if done properly.

We have just got our donor turret so our roof will be off by the weekend i am hoping. The new turret wasnt even spot weldered on it was glued on which makes it easier for us to remove!! The car has been totally stripped except for the engine, I have wanted a colour change for years and now i can get it !!

I will post more pics as more gets done. At the moment the donor roof is just sitting on the supports, the new roof was actually a replacement on another cc which had only been glued on, hubby had a bastard of a time removing the glue.
