I wouldn't say VI's are more thirsty than later model evo's, they are actually a bit lighter and run less boost, so I would be surprised if they did. If you want an economical car then don't buy and evo, although they are not much worse than other cars in their class, going average speeds on the hwy my TME uses around 10.5l on average, with a lot of city driving about a litre more. On track I have had as bad as 29l/100k. Another thing I would say is don't go cheap on these, they may be a cheap car to buy but upkeep is expensive if done properly, AYC needs servicing at regular intervals, they love eating clutches if driven hard, although my car is still on the original clutch. Servicing is normal as per any car if you do it yourself. Other than that the VI's at least are great if you get a good car, I have 0 problems with mine, common problems to look out for would be clutch, wastegate actuator (although a cheap and easy fix), check for rust or previous damage as these cars are usually not bought to be driven miss daisy. Good VI's and VII's can be had for around the 28k mark, VIII's and TME's around the low to mid 30's for very nice examples, VIIIMR's from mid to high 30's. Hope that helps.

Good advice.Thanks

After having the VR4 i realise how many moving parts are int hem..all the 4WD parts etc..they can be expensive..

hmmm dre =P

actually i think ej20 is a very reliable engine man.. ive had alot more luck iwht the wrx then the vr4 and most peoples evo's lol

people who break gearbox's in wrx just cant drive lol

Your car is what- a stock 1999 STI? I'd rather have an unreliable VR4 that could smoke it! 8) 8)

On a brighter note- are you still trying to sell it?? Whats next on the cards grant? Maybe JAP63 would want it??

yea still selling,

hopfully an evo of some sort hehe...

just dont put a button clutch and a fully sick uley cword behind the wheel and sti boxes are nice and tight...

=]

evo's drink the juice like crazy. even if you drive it like a grandma (not really possible depending on the clutch though) it still sucks it down.

i gave up trying to pussy foot it around in the end.. barely made any difference to fuel economy

How many Litres per 100K's were you getting?

I'm assuming you had a 7?

yeah i had a 7

and from memory i was getting around 13l/100km with fairly sedate driving. spend a few hours in the hills and you'd give a v8 commy a run for it's money in the fuel economy stakes

A friend with a JDM 8 gets around 10-11 Litres per 100K's for normal city driving. Freeway is around 9!

BTW, that's with a 9 turbo, re-tune and 24PSI!

Your'e right though, if you really get stuck into it, of course its going to drink.. 13 is still not THAT bad though considering the power you have from a 2 litre! 8)

yeah for sure. i was city driving all of those km's except for the odd trip up to our block of land or a "cruise" with the mates.
