Thermostat????

at the moment my car is being a little annoying when you drive it the temp comes up normal then everynow an then it will go up to 3/4 then stabilises it seems to stablise when car is staionary.... it is pressurising a lil an spilling over everynow an then...
it has an upgraded ally rad an new silicone pipes... now i noticed that after a drive today i had a look an the botoom radiator hose was cold as was the bottom of the rad so assuming does that mean the thermostat is being a pain an not opening properly all the time... also is it safe to remove the thermostat an run it with out one until i get a new one which should arrive monday or tuesday???// thanks for nay input

absolutly fine to run without one, just make sure to put the rubber ring that sits on the outside of the thermostat itself back in otherwise it will leak.
I don't run one at all as my engine bay gets way too hot and would rather the constant flow to keep it cool

Does this not cause Cavating??? i drilled a couple of small holes in my thermostat an that was enough to keep mine cool

From what I have Been told it's not good to run engine without a thermostat as the water doesn't get to the higher points of the motor..

operating temp is controlled by the thermostat, if you remove it the engine may not be able to get hot enough if the ambient temp is low

Yes operating temp will be controlled by the temp set on your thermostat however whats alittle more water flow when your engine is running at 70+ degrees..I basically call 60+degrees running temp but with the cooler temps of winter especially at night i have only be seeing 62-64 degrees during normal driving on the highway. But with heat soak once i get the lights it moves to high 70's or into low 80's.

The thermostat has a second plug like thing on the bottom of it that blocks something similar to a bypass valve, If the plug thing is not there the water level does not raise to the higher points of the motor....(qoute-unqoute!!)

So as you can see from the pics, a thermostat is really needed to ensure the water follows the correct path at a determined rate....to keep all of the engine at a similar temp.

The thermostat for these engines doesn't open till 88c either I believe, which to me means proper operating temp for these engines must be up around the 88c mark yea?? I sure as s##t wouldn't run mine without one.

I think its 82degC if running a standard thermostat...if using a Ralliart thermostat,as I am, its a few degrees cooler at 71degC

i HAD a 65 degree in mine but it wasn't enough to keep temps down hence why i pulled it out now temps seem the be much lower

Good to know, i might have to get a Ralliart one mine gets a fracky hot in summer with the one its currently running even with the holes drilled.

yeah i pulled it out this morning and discovered that that point which you circled in red jamo had bee knocked somewear some how an was slightly bent thus fouling on the shaft when the spring tries to open it so it doesnt open properly all the time my ralliart one shuld be here any day now so i cant see a couple days with out it a proplem will also determine whether this is infact the issue im confronted with thatnks for all the input gents

the reason ure temp is cooler when u pull the thermostat out is the water is spending less time absorbing heat from the motor. the thermostat not only controls water temp at a basic level but also lightly preassurises the engine side of the thermostat ensuring all componnents are allowed sufficient time to cool (heat soak with water). remember the coolant will travel the path of least resistance without a thermostat meaning some parts of the motor WILL develope hotspots. these affects are less noticeable in a daily driver but can mean game over in a hard driven car on a hot day.
