was working on a family friends car today (mitsu) and noticed something that could benefit some of us in the future..

without having to go after market intake mani etc for a bigger throttle, has anyone tried to use a V6 6G72 (2nd Gen) throttle (from a 99+ magna)?

they actually use the same 4 stud and PCD as our 4G63 throttles, you would only have to enlarge the mouth on the flange to make it work...

its not a huge difference, but enough to increase the CFM through the throttle.. measured the butterfly at approx 65mm diam vs VR4 throttle at approx 60mm

i may try it on my car and see how response changes..... it seams like a cheap upgrade compared to whats currently on the market, plus still had stock ISC..

I have one on mine :D , took all the idle shit off cos it was leaking boost (made up a flat plate in its place) an has never been connected since ive had the car, cant comment on the response diff as i never ran the vr4 one.
 
The throttle body is from a 92/95 TR/TS Magna, KR/KS Verada :)

i have this setup on my 4g93t, go one better and also use the magna throttle body gasket as it is a mls one and seals much better under high boost. you will have to port out the plenum a bit but its well worth it. point to not make sure idle screw is not stripped. because they are old cars many have seen alot of adjustment.
 
I tried to use an early 6g72 thorttle body but the linkages are on were on the wrong side so i went for the 2.6 magna T/B with my TPS And idle speed motor and it worked sensational!!!!

you might have gone 96 onwards. pre 96 all linkages and sensors are perfect. identical part numbers on all sensors and linkages correct way arround
look for the v6 tr magna or kr verada.
 
Some of the older codgers around here would be saying that mod was so 10 years ago :lol:
They are a good upgrade without going something aftermarket, especially when you can buy new TB's with idle steppers already attached to the Magna/Verada TB's for cheap.
