track/street brakes

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

After being around Lakeside in QLD in the weekend with the QFM pads I can only vouch for them more. Within a 1 minute ish lap I was pulling up from 190km/h twice down to about 80-90 km/h and with other braking and I had no issues at all. I carried out 5 X 7 lap sessions.

Endless ccx.. anyone have any idea of how much these are? and if they make for our cars.

Also, what kind of lines are good out there..?

some abs stores make up adr'd braided lines mate.

the ccx would be up around the $300+ mark easily i believe.

good high temp fluid will also help.

do you have a budget to get the brakes up to scratch?

I think Jetgsr had those pads on the front of his car. Ask him how quickly they wore his slotted rotors down til the slots were no longer visible.

As a budget racer I would look for the best bang for your buck. If you buy something like A1RMs and they don't work you are out of pocket $120. On the other hand if they work and you are happy with them then you end up being able to buy 3 sets of pads for the cost of the other options.

I have EBC Greenstuff in my car at the moment, and I'll never buy them again. They squeak and squeal, work fine without fading, but they seem to lack the ability to wash off speed quickly. There's much better out there for a similar price or cheaper.

Before this I had Race Brakes RB74 which were much better pads, although probably not quite so good initially when cold, they made a bit of dust, but they worked really well when hot. I think they cost around $150.

Have you considered running Carbotech XP8?

http://www.ctbrakes.com/

Carbotech XP8 (1108)

A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range (200F-1350F+). Carbotech XP8 is the first of our racing compounds. Outstanding initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly with 100% non-corrosive dust. Excellent as a front brake pad for lighter ITA, ITB, ITC, SRF, H4, H5, and other cars that weigh less than 2,400lbs. Perfect for novice, intermediate and advanced track day (HPDE) use with any tire, and can still be driven safely to and from the track. There are several vehicles that use XP8 on the street, autocross, and at track day (HPDE) events. Carbotech does NOT recommended XP8 as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. XP8 is also a great rear brake pad for almost any race car (Spec Miata-T1/T2/CMC). XP8 is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.

I have Ferodo DS2500. I am yet to try them at the track but on the street they are fantastic, great pedal feel with a nice bite, I was really surprised at how well the car brakes, when I bought it I expected the brakes to be average. GSR with EVO2 setup. They work well when they are cold too.

They are expensive.

FINALLY someone whos actually heard of Carbotech!!!

ebc green is pretty good for the street IMO. I have xdrilled/slotted rotors+twinpots+braded brake hoses and this may add to the braking ability :)

Another good thing about them is they are pretty cheap (especially comparing to endless/ project mu)

What are the carbotech worth?

Was $250NZ for the fronts (Twinpots) in XP8 a while back, probably more now due to exch rates. Was $500 for a full set to suit my Brembos too, glad I got them back then.

They aren't cheap pads, but they make cheap pads feel exactly that. I'll never go back to shitty EBCs.

I'm happy with EBC green stuff in the Mrs car with slotted DBA's, but its just a street car and obviously doesnt get rotor temps up from track abuse. For the money they made a huge difference, but I dont think I'd ever fork out $250+ for a pair of brake pads for anything other than a track car. When on the track dont skimp on safety.. that's the #1 rule.

i think i will be going for either pmu hc+ or the endless ccx. apparently though the ccx eat into your rotors pretty hard.

now need to find a good dba rotor.

yeah the dba4000s are available for early evo1-3, part numbers are:
DBA 4402S L/R (for slotted and Left and Right) Rear I believe
DBA 4406S L/R (for slotted Left and Right) Front I believe
Should set you back around 550 at trade price for all 4

I may be doing a group buy on these shortly, there should be some savings there. If there are enough interested I can get some prices together.

Readily available from where in Australia though?

Sure you don't mean Ferodo DS2500?

Read above, they are available easily but you are required to order them from overseas.
