Okay I know this has been asked before, and I'm done searches and I've read probably every post in this section on the subject, BUT I've been getting a lot of mixed information.

I was originally was going to go for either RP Syncromax or Max Gear oil. However, since they are suited for GL-4 & GL-5 and from what I have read that it may improve the smoothness of shifting, but will cause damage to the synchros in the long run.

I came across this post and it seemed to answer most of my questions of what oils to use. http://4gtuner.com/site/showpost.php?p=95425&postcount=41
But still, others on the forum have contradicted the information I found in the links.

Okay so, according to the information i found on the teamrip site and searching in this section I was thinking about going for the following oils for my service.

Transmission = Redline MT-90
Transfer Case = Redline Lightweight Shockproof
Rear Diff = Redline Lightweight Shockproof

This is going to be for my evo 1which is my daily driver/weekend warrior. I need something that isn't going to be too heavy in the winter but still not too thin in the summer during hotter temps.

Would going with what I had mentioned be the most effective way to achieve what I need or is there another route someone with some experience can offer?

Thanks.

I was using a mix of Redline MTL and MT90 in my box but have recently changed to Castrol Syntrans and it actually shifts way better.
I am also using light shockproof in my transfer and diff with no problems at all.

I was going to post this question up yesterday. I notice alot of guys mix MTL and MT90, is there any specific reason for this or is just a case of someone else did it and it caught on?

Worked nothing short of a miracle on my VR4 box..;)

Im gonna give that a go, filled up with castrol vmx 80. Now my gearbox is sometimes slightly slightly knotchy going into 3rd. never was before.

What quantities did you buy it in?
1L, 2.5L, 4L or 20L?

Up here in Townsville (IF I COULD GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!)
They had 3 bottles of 1L over the whole town at $30 EACH!!!!!!:fuuuuu::thumbsdown:

The castrol distributor has 20L for $322 which im leaning to atm....Least I can charge people and mates for it(Id have to at that price....)

OR $78 Trade for 3x1L bottles......

All that just for 2.5L!!

I'm using Redlines Heavyweight Shockproof for the transfercase. Nice thick stuff.

My choice for the gearbox is a GL5 oil, I won't mention it so people don't tell me my synchros WILL eat themselves.

The mixing of Redline MTL and MT90 is an old school DSM thing when they were all searching for the best oil for the nicest shift. Still even mentioned in VFAQ I think. Personally I think straight MTL is fine, if I wasn't going to be using the XXX GL5 oil it'd be at the top of my list.

Ive used lightweight shock proof in the transfer and the rear diff.....the rear is a plate lsd and i used the light weight shock proof at the recommendation of the redline distibutor......it worked too well and the diff would chatter and bang loudly around corners when off the power.

I took it out and put pentrite sin in there and it works great

I'm using mitsubishi diaqueen in my transmission and mitsubishi LSD oil in the rear diff and transfer. AWESOME stuff, but kinda pricey.

MT90 in the box
Heavy shockproof in the trans and rear diff

How much better is the shifting with a MT90/MTL mix? Straight MT90 does not shift nicley at all and terrible when cold.

Which Penrite Sin are you running in the TC?

Same as above aprt from CASTROL lsx 90 lsd oil in the rear diff

As far as I can tell you run the same oil in the TC as the rear diff.

I was going to run the Sin Manual Trans in GB and the Penrite Hypoid 80-90 in the TC.

Im going with Redline MT90 in my gearbox for sure, but am unsure about what to use in my transfer case. The manaul says to use GL-4 which is what MT90 is, but some of you guys are using GL-5? Can I run MT90 in my transfer case or not? In my rear diff Im using Royal Purple Max Gear GL-5.

TeamRip know their transmissions and stuff and if they use Motul blends then thats some sound advice for cars in their neck of the woods.
2nsane, I use Castrol oils all round, including LSX90 GL-5 for the transfer case.
Oils are not only chosen for their lubrication properties, but also for their operating temperatures.
