Okay I know this topic has been covered before and there is plenty of info out there. Id just like to know what fluid people are filling their transfer cases with?? I need to do mine and cost is not an issue. ive read a lot of recommendations to use a gl4 fluid but have heard of some people going for a thicker gl5 fluid. I'm after what is best for smooth quiet operation. Thanks in advance

Okay so Mitsubishi recommend a 75W-85 full synthetic fluid. What you recommend is a lot thicker! Is this going to do any damage??

Interesting read thanks a bunch. Will go get some redline tomorrow and give it a go. It's only about $40.00 for a quart so cheaper than I thought.

I just got myself some Redline MT-90 for the gearbox and some Redline 80W-140 for the transfer case myself.
I will find out soon enough how good it is lol.

Redline heavy shock proof in mine also.
Also tried amsoil without any issues.

Imo, as long a you keep it full and fix your leaks, it's pretty safe to use any recommended oil above. Just the usual daily driver?

If launching hard, go thick...

As you can read in those links the Redline "Heavy Shockproof" is not for use where there is synchro engagement. ie gearboxes and exotic diff setups. Heavy is OK to use in normal crown, pinion and gear operation like our transfers and rear diffs. In fact Heavy is often used in old school competition EVO I-III rear mech diffs to make them bite and engage more harshly. Just keep the Heavy out of your gearbox and its Ok to use. Plus if you ever decide to change from Heavy to something else, clean the internals as best you can to get rid of the snot, because thats exactly what it looks and feels like when it clumps together inside your diff lol. I hate cleaning it up because it feels like artificial snot and it has to be wiped off to get it off parts as a simple parts wash in diesel etc wont get it off lol.
