Transfer Case HELP!

hey guys, as most of u know dres old vr4 now belongs to my sisters boyfriend...

the issue it has/had is the transfercase lockup i think mattress had driving along and bam lockup sliding skiding etc...

after this happened my dad took it all appart and replaced the whole transfer case with another import one?? i think it was travs or something...

anywayz same thing happened last night complete lock up... mind u car has done maybe 5000kms since the change? seems a bit weird to me??

any1 got any ideas??

Might help if you list the gearbox, transfer and diff combo? (japspec/auspec etc) And did you refill the transfer case with new transmission fluid after it was reinstalled in the car? if so, what kind of fluid? and/or have you noticed any fluid leaks around the back of the transfer case where it meets with the tailshaft?

sounds like out of oil.. Or are you sure its transfer case and not gearbox?

Did he check the yoke? Mine was leaking through the back of the yoke and you don't notice it till it is too late

everything is jspec as far as we know....

there was/is no oil...

from what dale has said it was the same thing that happened last time which we stripped and found was the transfer case...

not sure on yoke ill ask

that case was from my cut which did about 80,000kms

I did empty the oil out of it to check it, and it was like new, did you refill it before driving?

The tailshaft yokes on the vr4's are known to leak.

You have to either seal it yourself or buy a new one.

They leak where the welsh plug is pressed onto the back.
metal goo or rtv will seal it.. but you have to remove it, clean it then seal it otherwise it will still leak.

look around the exhaust, floor pan, 4ws lines around that area for oil spray..

we refilled the oil upon installation of Trav's transfer case (thanks again for that Trav, haven't got another one by chance?) yeah have to give it a good assesment.
