hey guys just a quick few questions.
if im interested in turboing my ggsr what would i need to change/modify to make it work.
id just be looking for a stock 14b with vr4 dump, vr4 mani and jspec cooler and piping..
if i was to do this and run say low boost(5-8 ) psi no higher cause of comp..
what problems could i encounter or would everything seem to run smooth?
what about my ecu? would that handle it or fuck up?
cheers a
Matt

you would want a VR4 ecu, and 450cc injectors as a minimum, and also the VR4 AFM.

you would be better off buying a complete VR4 motor in the long run though..

adelaide=no vr4's,
adelaide=even less chance of finding a vr4 front cut,
anyway so if i needed all that stuff.
all of the stuff would be a direct bolt on except for cooler mounts am i right?
any input would be appreciated..
cheers

You would not want to go any higher than 6psi.

May I susgest a small supercharger, bigger injectors, and a piggyback fuel controller.
This way it would be much simpler.

trust me if you go for the 4g63 first you will save money even though you dont think you will and you will be much happier with the result and have a strong base on which to add to at a later date

i emailed them and they said they sold their only one ages ago and not sure when they will get another..
a supercharger might require to much custom work..
i no this is probly wrong to say
but i wont care terribly if it fucks up after a few months or so.
also i will need an oil feed from the head wont i?
whats the best way around this?
and also a turbo sump for the oil return line?

oh and for anyone that doesnt know.. i Have a 4g63 atm... what do you guys think the gsrs come with:S

ohk.. well
lets just say i want to take the cheap way out :)
is it do able or not..
sorry for the harsh words but a front cut would be nice but no place to store it and dont have the correct tools for and engine conv..
so what problems could i encounter if having the right hardware to do it..

heres my 2c

i see alot of guys trying to do what you are doing(but mainly with honda engine conversions) mate and they
end up spending alot more in the long run because tbhey have to buy lots of little insignificant parts and trying to sort little problems.

then you end up with a package that you have invested heaps of bs&t
that doesnt go as hard as a standard vr4.

you would honestly be better off saving for alot longer then buying an engine package with all the parts from one car.

it will make your life so much easier

I reckon go for it.

this is what you would need:

VR4 ECU
VR4 AFM
VR4 injectors
VR4 sump (for oil return)
VR4 intercooler and piping
VR4 AFM to turbo intake pipe
Turbo and piping TD04/TD05 and VR4 or EVO dump, manifold and lines
Decent clutch
new exhaust front pipe
boost gauge

Do the N/A's run knock sensors??

I've been looking at doing this to my N/A RVR sometime soon, and if you look hard enough, i'm sure you could get most of the parts (bar clutch and front pipe) for around $1000

With 5psi, you should see some decent reults!

Dont forget your datalogger!

cheers for the info dre..
what about the oil feed line what do i do there?
im sure i could source many of those parts off this site..
my budget would be 1.5-2 max

Just to add to what Dre said, lets be realistic about the parts here:

VR4 ECU $300
VR4 AFM and turbo intake pipe$100
VR4 injectors $150
VR4 sump (for oil return) $100 if you can find one, plus a new oil line
VR4 intercooler and piping $350

Turbo and piping TD04/TD05 and VR4 or EVO dump, manifold and lines $500
Decent clutch $700
new exhaust front pipe $400
boost gauge $120

So you're already at about $2720 PLUS a knock sensor (which will need to have a hole drilled and tapped in the block im guessing) PLUS any labour for putting it all together.

Is that really worth 6 months worth of maybe 6psi?

Add the cost of the GGSR (say $4500) thats a good way of blowing $7500 (easily) to just blow up a car

i already have a h/d clutch.. i doubt those prices would be accurate. ive seen pricing on here much less. i have a mate at an exhaust shop that does me real good deals.
i would find the cheap way of doing stuff.
i doubt it would be anywhere near that price..
anyway i am going to do it.. will teach me for the next car i get and who knows it may be still running in a few years from now..
who nos

oh and i would rather the look of a turbo sleeper hatch then a maroon vr4 anyday:p

OK well all I can say is goodluck to you but having gone through it I reckon those prices are pretty accurate.

Some of those parts aren't easy to come by so if you find them expect to pay for shipping on top. Take it from someone who's been there and done it - budgets blow out.

I'd rather just buy a VR4, but that's just me :)

Its obvious that this guy likes his car. Let him learn from his mistakes- everyone has to do it at least once in their lives!!

Also, talking about realistic- if you look hard enough, you can find most of those parts for alot cheaper than that.

VR4 DUAL BOARD ECU $50
VR4 AFM and turbo intake pipe $100
VR4 injectors $100
VR4 sump (for oil return) $100 (get your existing sump fitted out if need be)
VR4 intercooler and piping $200 MAX!!!

Turbo and piping TD04/TD05 and VR4 or EVO dump, manifold and lines: I sold a TD04 13g 2 years ago for $100! manifolds are $50-$100!!
Decent clutch $400
new exhaust front pipe $250
boost gauge $50

Thats $1500 including clutch and font pipe!!

either way its your call bro what ever you want to spend the money on is up to you....
