Hey all,

I tried to do a search looking for a guide or instructions on how to install the turbo tech Manual Boost Controller, but wound up not finding anything.

Does anyone have an instructional guide as to where to install the boost controller, and approx how you have it adjusted on your evo?

Many thanks,

This is the way I have always done mine- just make sure its fully wound closed before you install it. Find the hose which goes to the actuator on the turbo. You want to put the T in this line. Cut it at a spot which is close to a mount or other hoses which you can zip tie it firmly to, after installation. Install the bottom of the controller into the hose that goes back to the vac port on the intake manifold. The port which comes off at a right angle, goes to the actuator. Use zip ties or small hose clamps to FIRMLY secure the hoses to the ports on the controller.

After you have it installed correctly, undo the locking mechanism (nut), and screw the adjuster out about 1x 360 turn. Lock it up again, go for a drive and see what difference you get in boost. If you get none, then repeat the same step. You'll eventually want to adjust it in 90 turns, until you get it at the boost level that you want (which is??)

Also, what boost gauge are you running? bar or psi?

Ideally, you would want to get a wideband 02 sensor hooked up, or better yet- chuck your car on a dyno, so you can get the AFR's double checked and set the boost to its optimal spot. Its well worth the extra few $$. Trust me. Anyone who knows DSM's will be able to help you. For now though, 14-15psi or 1bar should be o.k

Clicky

Just connect it from the output of the turbo to to wastegate input. Make sure its the right way around or it doesnt work :p Theres a pic in the thread with the instructions anyways. (my mechanic put mine on backwards, u can see it in the pic :p)

Awesome write up, thank you!

I'll pop the hood tomorrow and take a look around. I was mainly worried about going into boost but accidentally having it on something crazy like 20psi+

But the fun really starts at over 20psi 8)

+1.

I have run 2x 4G63T's at 20psi and above all day every day with a stock headgasket and motor with awesome results. I cant see any reason why your motor couldn't make some serious power if you get it setup correctly

With that said, I was going to pick up an autometer gauge at the local parts store.

Would anyone reccomend a different boost gauge then autometer? I'm looking for something very small & low profile to mount in front of the gauge cluster/behind steering wheel.

autometer for the win mate,
ive ur willing to spend the cash, they're by far the outstanding brand in gauges and proven the most accurate

+1 with the autometer line. A Procomp ultra-lite one is sweet. 2 5/8" so you can actually read it. I'd be mounting it on the A-pillar though- its easier to read because you don't have to look down.

By the way- I would be installing a boost gauge WAYYY before you think about installing the turbotech MBC!

I would mount it to my a-pillar, but it would require a bit of custom fab that's outta my skill level (roll cage follows the pillars).

And yes, it would be stupid to install the MBC prior to the boost gauge ;D

Good to know my local schucks actually carries a decent quality product every now and again.

Mechanical boost gauges are as easy to install as MBC's....

You could always mount the gauge to the rollcage?

I could, but it would take some interesting fab, and I'm an Amateur when it comes to that. It has to be secure and safe in case of a roll - zip ties wouldn't cut it.

just buy one of those metal cup holders and weld/bolt it on...
this is childs play stuff...lol

How hard is it to utilise a hose camp (no fabricating involved)
I'm assuming you will at least have a gauge holder for it?
This is how our boost gauge was mounted on the cage on the Rally EIII we had

Do you have any picutres handy to give me an idea of how to mount something like that? The roll cage is snug so tight to the a-pillar i'm not sure that I can get something that fully wraps around.

Otherwise, I was thinking of just a gauage+pod and drill it in to the dash.

Yeah, fair enough. I'll admit I'm noob ~_~
