So I've hooked up my haltech and tried to load my base map but am having a problem.
The ecu is asking for a password and doing that thing where it loads 99% then only gives me read access. So obviously the previous tuner has locked it so I can't access the tune, which isn't a problem for me as the tune isn't running my car anyway so I want to start again.
When I load the 4g63t base map it gives me the same values as the existing tune. Does anyone have any idea how to wipe the ECU clean and load up the base map?

You'll have to speak with the Haltech tech guys on the phone, or at least join the Haltech forum and ask online for written instructions.

I've been reading forum posts all day. Apparently it's an issue with the usb-serial adaptor, if there's a compatibility issue it will ask for a password - which usually doesn't exist. I either need to find a serial cable that will connect to my laptop or get a keyspan USA-19HS usb-serial adaptor which is supposed to work everytime and not cause the password issue.

I've got the serial adapter you need if you get desperate. Can just loan it to you if you want to do postage.

What Haltech model is it? Not a platinum if it's using a serial adapter?

No worries. I will post up a picture tonight (your time) to make sure it's the one you need. If so will post it across for you on Friday.

You could buy a USB to RS232 serial converter for a cheap $4.95 delivered from Sydney.
My brother has this exact one with the drivers CD. It works fine for his Haltech E8 and my E8. Plugs into the Haltech and the USB plugs into your laptop obviously.

I had a problem with a converter not working before, therefore I was only using a serial cable for a while there. But that particular USB to serial works fine. ^^^^^^^^^
Without the drivers CD, it wont work.

No worries mate, I have the USA-19hs in my hand now. It is a bit hit and miss with these adapters, and I tracked down this exact adapter due to problems connecting to the innovate O2 device, nothing worked except this one. And as mentioned above, the correct drivers are the key.

Let me know any way, I will take it to work with me tomorrow so if you need it I can post it off to you, plus a link to the right driver software. What version of widows you using?

I've read about issues with the usb adaptors in several places so even though I've installed the driver now there is still a chance this cable won't work.
George if you can throw it in the post anyway that'd be great, at lest then I know if it isn't working with that cable then there's a bigger issue with the ECU. I've borrowed the parents laptop and it's running Windows Vista which also apparently hates the Haltech software.
PM me your bank details and I'll drop some cash into your account.

Driver attached for Vista.

Not able to test if this driver is sure to work but will be better than the windows one.

Let me know how you go.
