Barry's gonna be building a new engine....

lol
yes lorrie master engine builder

i will now bolt on my turbo because lorrie says i should..

question..
whats the difference between an N/A and a turbo????
the turbo...

besides that, they are the same (other than compression, and stronger parts)

same moving parts, same theory behind it all

reason for doing it without the turbo
after rebuilding, there is so much crap in your galleries that regardless of how clean you think it is, the oil will be filthy when u first run it

with turbo's.. u dont want that junk to get into the bearings, also running in doesn't require boost.. alot of people run in off boost or on low boost, reason.. stress on bearings / parts before they have seated properley..

i'd consider your reasoning but i dont think your experience compares to the engine builders i have spoken to..

a lot of US guys do it

means that no little bits of metal from the engine machining process dont blow up that new turbo. ill just be running a filter in the oil line

another form of proof, and who also holds the current vr4 record? or 4g63 record???.. US guys.. i've spoken to SBR, GVR4.org members, DSMTalk members and its a common practice..

even Jeff from evosport run in their motors off boost...

so lorrie, if u think its gonna blow, u should have some proof before you make statements like that..

i dont think that i'd spend thousands of dollars and let it blow by not running a turbo..

another watch your mouth post by a fellow club member..

i read it..
dont get me wrong

Running a turbo engine in N/A then strapping on the turbo is among the easiest ways to throw a bearing/etc

you said you can prove it..
then prove it =)

I think what lozza's trying to say is if you chuck a turbo on an N/A car that doesnt have the right compression ratio, then you'll blow it up. Sure.

If you do have the right compression ratio then I couldnt see this as being an issue. I have a friend in NZ whose integra vtec has just finished a lengthy rebuild, and he's running the car as N/A until he gets a turbo and manifold for it.

he quoted throwing a bearing...
i just want to know his reasoning behind this..

if he said detonation, yeah sure.. dre's point would make sense..
but throwing a bearing usually relates to low oil pressure??? clearance problems?? etc

i dont see how running a turbo engine without a turbo then bolting on a turbo will kill it..

dre, you should warn your friend!!.. he's gonna kill his motor!!

hmm.. also we better warn CAPA and guys like them!!..
bolting on a supercharger kit onto those v8's / v6's would probably cause them to rebuild an engine also!!.. *runs off and calls all the big performance shops and tells them to stop putting turbo's / super chargers on n/a motors*

went for a spin tonight, and yeah.. it's so inconsistent

low rpms, high rpms, low speed, high speed, fast changes, slow changes

crunches sometimes, smooth as butter other times

mines the opposite, thats why i think its the clutch, its shifts perfectly- until you take it above 6k and try to slap it.

Guys, relax with the sledging of each other. This is a friendly forum where we value everyones opinion whether it be right or wrong. Please take everyones opinions with a pinch of salt.

Thanks

Try??

MADEVO is getting a "Jon's Spec" clutch installed and is due out any day!!!
In relation to the crunching aspect, mine crunches into fifth and isn't as slapable as my bro's VR4 or my mates old GSR. I am hoping that it is that the clutch cables need adjusting coz since it has been in the shop i have noticed that they are pretty loose. Might be worth a look Clutz??

Expect that clutch to be "humped" for the first few hundred k's. It loosens up a bit, initially you'll have to give it some shit to take off but again that will loosen up as well. Eventually it just feels like a regular oem clutch but bites HARD when you let it off.

Oh and umm, best of luck with it :)

expecting a flywheel at the end of the month..
this time to be the right size!!..

also got all my unpainted panels on the car
and primed bumpers..

will be driving around like that until the car is mechanically good
therefor no pushing when getting painted which isn't good for the panels..

love your paint Dino..
gimme the dudes number!!!..

update on my car :- the idler tensioner on the front shat itself (should have been changed with the belt 3 months ago), so my timing belt came loose, probably skipped a couple of teeth, not sure if bent valves or not yet, hopefully not.
