4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Looks like my aspec will benefit from the custom made 3" exhaust i had on the Jspec before the accident, but i will need to check out the clutch and see if it is worthy of being transplanted into there too. I have a feeling it might need new springs or other bits n pieces. At least i will find out wtf it is!

im trying im trying.. lol

it never ever goes to plan..

dino!!.. i been calling you

i have 3 cars to spray..
would your dude be interested??

Just paid for a slightly larger turbo, valve springs and retainers should be on their way. Injectors soon. Picking up an EVO3 oil cooler ex Rob Barac this week. My bedroom floors becoming a mess....

Barry, how are you running in the engine?

so your getting a rebuild hey??

i've had many suggestions on how to run it in..
some say nice and easy
some say hard

firstly ill be running it in without a turbo,
oil type 20- 50 mineral based oil
change at 200km's
400km's
700km's and then lastly 1000km's
1000 is when u go the good oil
the others, just use the 20-50 crap oil

first start, this is what i've been told by: 1. my engine builder and 2. american engine builders.

first start,
crank it over. one person in car, second looking for leaks
basically when u run it for the first time, hold the revs at 2000rpm for 15 minutes..

once its all good (no leaks, water or oil) take it for a spin
take it up to 3rd gear nice and easy .. cruising is fine

get to a long road, (run in location) and WOT up to 7000rpm and let it rev down to 3000rpm (no brakes, all engine, in gear).. reason for this, the down revving will create a vaccum which will pull the rings out and basically allow the rings to seal with the bore nicely..

do this 5 times.. (critical to have the down revving)

once that is done that is it!!.. that will pretty much create a good seal with the rings / bore.. now for the bearings, just keep revs fluctuating.. keep it running up and down.. reason, u dont want the bearings to take the load at the same point, change of revs means change of load on all parts..

take it up to a mountain or something =)

do this for 1000 - 1500 km's (1000 is what aussies say, 1500 is what yanks say)

make sure u dont run rich (or else it will glaze bores)

thats all i can really think of buddy
thats how i will be running in mine.

try it if you like, but i've had good feedback from the USA DSM owners with this method.

some claiming to have 180-180-180-180 comp after this procedure..

personally i never understood why people use shit oil in the first instance. i cant see reason for doing so other than saving a couple of bucks

so you had a spot on tune before pulling the engine apart? (re: running rich). i was going to run the standard chipped ecu (so less rich than stock) during the run in and then tune it to the new turbo once the run in is complete and i bolt the turb on

how i ran my motor in..

flogged the absoloute fuck out of it turbocharged on 15psi.. LOL

and it was fine..10,000km and didnt miss a beat.. only reason it died was cos it ran out of oil (damn oil cooler line).

Jon

no probs dino

tune will be made on a dyno after the first start..

shit oil is used due to the fact that synth doesn't have properties that will allow for proper seating..

also that u drain it every 200 km's.. so ur wasting alot of money..

also supposably the oil will be pretty much water after 200km's due to the left over acid / crap left in there when u do a rebuild..

My j-spec has been back on the road for a month n a half or so now,

was off the road for the best part of 6 months having the following fitted.. should have been 6 weeks, but you know mechanics ;)

brand new evoIII 16g
ss equal length headers
3" dump pipe (mild) back to high flow 3" cat
ss cat back was already on
polished 2.5" ss ic piping
600x300x75 hybrid copy ic
haltech e6x running standalone
haltech controled boost @ 18psi
road friendly tune (better than stock)
battery re-located to boot
re-built gearbox with sincros & various other parts that were stronger than what i had salvaged from another box

already fitted audio wise was..
panasonic head unit (cool dot matrix display)
2x panasonic 12" subs
1x panasonic 4ch amp, bridged, running subs
stock rear speakers (work sweet)
vdo front 4" speakers

by no means a ground trembeling system, but has great, clean sound quality.

car was tuned by matty spry & made 176awkw

its got what i suspect is a failing igniter, as when the cars started warm (not usualy when hot) it maked a bizarre cranking noise & runs on 1 cylinder for a few secs, then 2 for maybe 30 or 40 secs & then its fine.

so that will need to be changed in the next week or so.

becides that problem all is sweet.

oh & if your wondering what kind of economy you will get from going the bolt on power up route, it gets 360 - 400 around town, with a fair bit of boosting or around 13/14L per100k. what i just found out today however is it got an increadable 389k's from 35ltrs of fule which is only 9L per100k

That's insane!!!! :D

176 AWKW is a very very good figure :D Especially for a "road tune".

I'm assuming by road tune, I guess it's friendly on the petrol and not tuned for outright power.

Well my cordias getting:

Alloy Radiator
EB Oval Throttle Body
Polished IC Piping
16g Turbo

That'll do for this time, more on the way.......:D

cheers

thats right, definatly not tuned for out right power, definatly out right reliability, as the cars driven every day by my wife & im not going to put up with her winging every time somethings not quite right ;)

its a bit thirsty around town 13/14L per 100k's & as i said in the previous post, im astonished at its highway economy!!

***thinking*** maybe if i stop revving 1st n 2nd out every set of lights i'll get beter around town economy

damm freakin car has something against me, i had a new set of valves 3 months ago, and now everyone of them is bent, ARGHHH.

Okay, getting back on topic, I dropped my car off at VR4PWR's house tonight, saw LETSGO on the way, he said he's keen to come on the next cruise, so that should be good, havent seen Eugene in ages! Car should be ready end of next weekend- boomin 8)

Flywheel arrived on tuesday, looks nice, clutch is sitting here, all just waiting to be installed in a couple of weeks :D
