meanwhile vicroads has suspended my rego i need 4 new tyres and a wheel alignment......my wallet hurts

look at the skinny rods!!

wow...
i didn't realise that the 4g93 rods were twigs!

are you going to get some rods also?

Get some rods now man, just borrow some money and pay it back later, seriously.

Your basically there, just change them now, because I doubt you'll do it later in the future, plus do you really want to have to do all this shit over again? The rod's are known to be weak. No point getting pistons without rods, might as well just get another 4G93T rods & piston set then.

my 2 cents.

Um :? How come you started a new thread about your build when just days ago you were asking about rod/piston torque specs?

How come you didnt put the pics there instead? :?

Anyway its not like your the first one to just put the stock rods back after a rebuild and later blow them out of the side of the block(Our mates car up here in Townsville put them through the block with 300 000 kms on the clock JUST sitting on idle[so the exhaust place says  ]) and then afterwards cry about it.

Thats why we are looking out for you

Anyway at the end of the day its your car dude and money bro.

But If I were you id be taking out a smallish loan from your folks and shoving in the forgies....

Good luck....

By the way them Ebay rods^^^^are the same as the china rods I showed you in the other thread earlier...just a different seller...

i can understand with cars / mods, $$ is the biggest issue...

but if you really wont be flogging it and you want to use standard rods in your rebuild, you may as well have just used standard pistons as well and saved the money there...
forged pistons are for flogging, and if you will eventually flog, you should get rods now while you can.

but since you have already bought the pistons and theyll be going in, save up some more and keep it off the road longer and do the rods as well.. do it once, do it right... especially while its all apart

im not having a go, but ive stuffed up a couple of years ago-before my current build - just wasnt worth cutting corners believe me

This isn't entirely unfeasible - it happened to a GSR I know (which had copped a flogging for years - had a GT30 on it). At the lights one day, flicked the aircon on, and bang, rod through the block. On teardown, a bearing had seized which ultimately caused the damage.

My thoughts - putting stock rods in an otherwise 'built' motor is barely better than a standard motor, since the weakest link is still present. You're no better off, so either save the money and throw in a second hand motor or do a stock rebuild, or chuck a set of rods at it while the motor is apart.

The damage on that piston looks to be caused by detonation - even forged pistons won't live through that kind of abuse (ask me how I know  ). It wouldn't suprise me at all if the original rods aren't bent already after living through that kind of punishment - if you're hell bent on sticking with them, make sure they're measured correctly before going back in.

yep i agree, get some Argo rods NOW to save yourself the pain later. Those standard rods wont last 5 minutes!

it wasnt detonating.. but i was flogging it and i was my own stupid fault..

i do appreciate the concern.. if i do get decent rods im gonna need to know where to get them (im not using ebay)

i'd just like to point out that i got those pistons cheaper than a set of stockies

are they 20 thou over in size like most forgies, if so you need to bore the block to size which will add $$$ anyway

dont get me wrong, i think its a good thing to get these pistons and do the above... but to do it right get the supporting mod->rods.

misgsr is in the middle of doing a full build of her 4g93t using all the goods.. ill tell her to come in here with some rods suggestions.

As your new here and you'll be here for quite sometime & So will we ;) lets not hope that later down the track in time we dont see your posting
:Blown Engine rod through block #$%^&#

Its up to you which ever path you chose  just remember we did try and guide you the right way from our own first hand experiences on your 93t engine build.

Good Luck with the build but dont cut corners with the 93t it will bite your a$$ later bigtime.

and believe me stock evo 1-3 rods arent much thicker either, Ive looked at 1.8 gsr to evo 2.0lt ones side by side.... only Vr-4 ones are bigger and stronger...

what crank did you get?

Surely you are not sticking with the GSR match sticks.. thats just plain stupid (unless you're never going to race it again and pot around on stock boost)

crower rods are the goods... and they weigh the same as gsr rods
