Hey all,

I'm likely stripping some parts from my 1996 LEgnum VR4 and fitting them to the RVR (HSGR) we have. One of the best items I have is a custom brake kit from a company called KAD in the UK. They make 6-pot alloy calipers that fit 330 x 28 (up to 32) floating discs on a custom fit mounting bracket.

The kit cost me £1500 last year so I don't want to be losing a packet selling it on and they would make an awsome upgrade to the RVR, even if the canary yellow would clash with the white car and black wheels LOL

So I need to know some facts about the stock brakes if possible. Please can someone answer the following:

1. Distance between centres of mounting bolts on hub :
2. Size of standard discs:
3. Offset of standard disk from face of hub (to enable alignment of disc in caliper) :

The stock caliper is two-pot and I have a similar unit spare from my 8G VR4 but I suspect mine is a larger disc (294mm). I don't know how closely the VR4 fittings match the VR4 or any EVO models. Does anyone know if any of the EVO discs are a direct fit to the RVR?

Thanks for any info
Lee

My machinists RVR has late model Brembo's. Was a very easy conversion. If I recall correctly, he ran magna front hubs, I'll check to confirm. That was the only major change, which I wouldn't really call major. The rear brembo's bolted straight up.

can you get pics and more info runuts? but you are right, the rears bolt straight on ;) think you need verada hubs (havent been able to find any yet) for the front

Im hunting for a pair verada hubs aswell  .... Runuts how did your machinist solve the drum style cable for the rvr? I'm wondering are all the magna verada front hubs runs from year 1996 - 2002 will fit into the rvr?

Wae

I've never heard of a Verada, can someone give me a clue? A chassis number from one with compatibe parts woudl be even better so I can see what else has the matching parts.

@RVR97 - Both types are cable operated but simply function in a different manner. I would imagine you just need to find suitable handbrake cables, if longer ones are needed, or modify the existing cables if shorter ones are needed. If they are the same length then happy days!

EDIT: As soon as I posted I re-thought through what I had posted above. If the RVR uses a drum type handbrake then you simply wouldn't use the handbrake mechanisim on the Brembo caliper, would you? It's not tied into the original caliper and drum handbrakes are better so just retain the old system.

verada is the upmarked magna. i got my hubs from a tr magna, they are not all compatable, check spline count before you buy. oh, and my seals were different too, so be careful when removing them or be prepared to replace them

LOL, we don't have a Magna either. Only ever seen one of those on a business trip to Brunei.

25? pull the nut off and count them.

and beast, you got both cars there, get your tape out and have a look. let us know what you find out. if its too hard, sell your brakes to me and i will work it out

LOL, am going to do some more investigation next week. I have CAPS too so was hoping I could get more info without rolling around under the car too much. I have brackets to fit both the PFL and FL VR4s so hopefully the FL brackets match as they normally use the same mountings as an EVO. The only other thing to work out is which set of bellhousings I need to locate the disc centrally in the caliper.

ahh man, i got the breaker bar and correct size socket for the nut. It's so tight that I can't undo the damn NUT! I might need your help to undo the nut for me Jack  It think the only front hubs will go along with the rvr it has to be come from a 1991 tr 25 spine count, or the 92 - 96 has 27 spine counts. Not completely sure yet.

Update: I came across this page, http://www.driveshaftstore.co.uk/index.php?prodid=15991 it said ext spline are 27 counts. does that mean rvr has 27 counts? I would have check the spline count if could I undo the nut  can any tell me whether its 25 or 27...

I went to ask around wreckers for the tr 25 spline counts hubs. I got replied back $350.00 for the front pair.........

your breakerbar isnt long enough. go get a scaff tube a metre long and jump on the end (remove split pin first though)

mine was 25 spline
i will take the ones off my car sell them to you and convert mine back to 4stud for $350.

Hahah don't be silly Jack...lol anyway I got hold a pair of the 92 magna tr knuckles n hubs with 25 splines this afternoon! I counted twice on the splines before I hand over $150  n i'm still wondering did I over paid the guy? Oh yeh one of the wheel bearing seems to be rooted so, but still spins ok.

I think its pretty much straight swap into the rvr, remove the old tr bearings n knuckes out of the tr hubs and press the tr hubs into my rvr, I believe i still can retain using the old rvr bearings together with the tr hubs uh?

I'm certainly do need help with undoin' nuts n bolts, it would be good if some one can lend me a hand. Well this what I did today... I removed the center cap, pin removed, sprayed the axle nut with wd4d, and let it sit for a while. Lowered the car down on all 4 wheel put in 1st gear. Got a 32mm socket, breaker bar, and a half a meter solid tube...and tried many many times jump on it, hammer the crap out of it, the stupid nut still wont come off. Btw i asked the guy how did he get the tr hubs out, he told he had to chizel the axle nut off

they take a bit sometimes. keep trying over next day or so. they will come loose.
you can reuse your bearings but will need a press to press them off and i wrecked 1 seal when i did mine. i got an idea the tr knuckles are the same as rvr (something written here somewhere) so maybe just regrease and chuck em on. tr knuckles are different to the lancer ones at the steering arm but maybe the same as rvr. the steering arm is a different height on the knuckle.

I'll give it ago tomorrow morning. Where did you get your wheel bearings from Jack? I'm eyeing a set of front bearing for the magna tr on ebay for about 70bucks shipped just incase i ruined the seal...

Heres a good tut how to remove the bearing with out removing the knuckles. Anyway if I can't get the axle nuts out = no brake/rotor conversion

can anyone confirm the Magna TR front knuckles are the same as the RVR? I got my front wheels off today, both the tr and rvr knuckles are looks identical "by visual matching" not sure though...

I used a pry bar to get the hub off the knuckle today "just on side". The racer n seal are stuck on the hub, I dunno what to do from there on as I wanted research more before get things swap over or putting new bearing etc

Now my question is I can't tell the differences between the tr n rvr hub, both are 5 x 114.3 pcd. At the moment my rvr has the evo 7 wheels and had a measure on both the tr n rvr knuckles brake mounting caliper holes both are the same. Does that meant my rvr already has the tr front hubs that I'm not aware off??You can always get bearing with associated internal diameter to suit, but i think it would just be a hassle.

you said in your first post that you just wanted tr hubs. what are you trying to achieve? why do you want these hubs if you already have 5x114.3?
if you trying to bolt brembos or other calipers onto your knuckles i dont know what you need. others here have said you need adapter plates or some other knuckles.
if you changing bearings now, you need bearing seperator to split the race from the hub. this is where i damaged a seal squeezing seperator behind race
