Hey guys,

This morning on the Eastern Freeway I saw a guy in a VL Turbo that had been pulled over by a VicRoads Response Van, who was issuing some sort of notice to the driver - and placing a bright orange or red sticker on the cars windscreen.

About 5 kilometres inbound I saw another car (a Swift GTI or similar) on the opposite side of the freeway parked and abandoned with the same bright orange or red sticker on the windscreen.

Has anyone else seen this happen before? I didnt even realise they could pull you over ....

vicroad cars can pull you over, and they are much more in dept with what you can/can't have on your car, but they are normally pulling over heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses and sometimes taxis.

just read your post again dan, i remember an orange sticker placed on a car was meaning it had been abandoned and it would get towed away in 24 hours if it was not removed by the owner.

not too sure about the vl one though

Eh, might as well sell the lancer and buy a Yaris. Toot toot!

Theres probably some loop hole about them pulling people over. Wonder what would happen if you just drove calmly home with them following and stuck it in the garage and closed the door? hahahhaaaaa. OR by parking it legally and walking away? - Ive seen that done before to a cop and it worked....

Sometimes I actually get the feeling theyre actually trying to phase out any car that can run a quarter in under 16 seconds.

they are pretty much like, connex/metro with public transport. they can ask you for your ticket, hold you until police come and so on, it's just vicroads pretty much own all the roads.

Being from N.Z I didnt have to sit any drivers licence test when I moved over. Just swapped my licence over and away I went. There is NOTHING in the laws in NZ stating you have to pull over for someone with purple flashing lights. When I had my old VR4, a VIC Roads car tried to pull me over cos he heard my external- he didnt catch me- and unless I see a blue and red light- I aint pulling over....

i'm pretty sure vicroads have more power than the police when it comes to pulling you over etc.. they certainly do when it comes to trucks

as far as i know, we do not have to pull over for flashing purple lights in Vic..... no law in our L and P test state we have to soo fark it why pull over.... unless they changed something with the stupid red and green p's.... i wouldnt be surprised if there pulling over cars that are blowing out heavy smoke etc.....

An Officer of the Department of Infrastructure is A Victorian Taxi Directorate Officer (note dept of infrastructure is now dept of transport)

Vicroads have more power than police on the roads. It's an offense not to pull over for them, they cannot however engage in pursuits so you can just drive off. But don't be suprised to find your license/rego cancelled and/or a nice letter in the mail shortly after if they get your plates.

Yeah same as the RTA in NSW. If you get flashed by the Inspectors cars with purple lights on top they can issue infringements as well. I cant recall anyone of our guys ever pulling anybody over in a light vehicle to issue an infringement though, but heavy vehicle yes!. They also assist the police during special operations too but they dont go out of their way to pull you over on the road like they seem to do in VIC.

VIC sounds like a prick of a place for a modified car owner atm!

in ACT you have to pull over for the inspectors with purple lights, but same as in NSW, never seen or heard of anyone getting pulled over by one (with the exception of heavy vehicles)

They are normally present when police setup RBT stations and do any inspection/fine there.
