Victorian Bushfires

All of the Victorian members would know how crazy the weather was down here on Saturday.

I went to go for a swim at the beach to get some relief from the hot weather, but as soon as I got out of the car I got pelted with sand due to the high winds, and had to get back into the car.

I drove my mum to the airport on Saturday morning and thought I saw the smoke of a bushfire next to the freeway, but it was just the wind picking up dust from the open paddocks.

Some of you may know Sloth, we had a BBQ at his place in Marysville a few years back on a cruise. Has anybody heard from him to see if he's ok?

Yeah our thoughts are all with Mike- he often went to his house in Marysville on the weekend. I'm hoping that his house was saved (apparently there's only 1 building still standing though) and that he is ok.

I heard Marysville was completely destroyed. Everything.. the whole town.
Hope he is well.
Its only about 15k from my house. Can smell the smoke distinctly.
Really scary. Things like this, especially so close and knowing people who are affected really hits home

I just came back from donating blood and will donate to the bushfire fund as well. After all, some of the best roads are in that area!

the place where i proposed to my mrs burnt down in maysville too which is a shame, very sad news with all the people that have lost their lives.

I heard a woman on the radio this morning calling from a house with about 20 people in it in the middle of the bushfires, 9 of them children under the age of 10. They were trapped and in desperate need of help to get them out. She was in contact via the telephone to a radio station and you could hear the trembling fear in her voice as she made her plea for help. The woman's father lived in a nearby town and was on the radio crying and appealing for help to save his daughter and the others in the home. The house was apparently surrounded by fire from all fronts, roads were blocked and there was no way out for them. Through the fires drove the woman's 18 year old brother bashing through the paddock fences driving a tractor towing a sprinkler system right up to the house. He got them all out of there and into safety. His actions give hope and inspiration to all of us. He is a true hero in every sense of the word risking everything to save the lives of others! The home that the 20 people were in was later found to be burnt to the ground. Should be more to the story tonight on the NEWS?

Wishing the best to all those affected south of the border. Some real sad stories and accounts from SES workers etc have been playingon the radio all day. A lot people didnt make it.

On my side of town it absolutely pissed down on Sunday. It mustn't have reached too far.

Maybe the government should re-think its $950 handout and donate all of that money to the people from the bushfires.

Im going tonight to donate spare baby clothes, formula, bottles and nappys I have, at my local fire department

i cant seem to comprehend what people must be going through, really really sad

we had the fire front no more than 200m away and saw flames on the hill in front of us but the wind changed so we are fine for the moment

Really bad to hear about this, I just dunno what to say only that guys please if you can give a bit to the releif fund, a lot of people have lost there lives and familys. I really feel for these people that have had there lives impacted by this tragedy. I will certainly drive up to have a look first hand in a month or so how bad it is as I'm sure what we are seeing on the news just isnt showing the magnitude of what has gone on.

My missus is really upset, the place she used to work in Marysville has been burnt to the ground and a mother and her two kids died inside. The manager of the place was a lady with two children but we can't find out yet whether it was them or not. Very very sad stuff!

if you can go by SA weather heading for VIC, we've had a cold day here today and yesterday. i think we might see some rain too. so hopefully that carries over to where the fires are..

My mrs just went through the kitchen cupboards and linen cupboard and clothes over the past couple of days and put together a few boxes of things to donate to a local family that just had their home gutted by fire also. We have heaps of shit I've been telling her to get rid of for years so I'm happy they;re going to a good cause lol
