HI Im looking at a Grey Import CE9A on the firewall (95 Model)

Has the following Vin; JMFCC6H41NJ001010

Could anyone advise the break down of this VIN please ?

Options on Mitsubishi Factory Tag read, EO8 D56 S77 (What are these Options ?)
Build Date 6/92
BC Paint (White)
B4 Trim (??)

The Australian Approval reads;
8/92 Lancer CC ; JMFCC6H41NJ001010 5 Seater

How does this sound for a Jap Evo Imported legit with correct info on the tags, however not able to reg. as an EVO 3.

The car is currently out of rego and I want this as a street car not an out and out track car.
That is why Im chasing I.D confirmation.

Any advice, decoding would be appreciated, I know these questions come up, but sometimes there are quirks and good
to hear it referenced to this specific car.

Cheers !

it's not a grey import that's a rebirth through and through JMFCC6H41 is a std lancer sedan vin for a Australian delivered car

6?
h = 1.8l
41 = 4 door

heres a vin from an aussie delevered gsr
jmfcc7s41sj036754

the above would translate back to a body code of cd5a

and heres one from a aussie delivered coupe
jmfcc5h21rjxxxxxx

the one you've presented from what i remember of decoding vins points back to a fwd 1.8l sedan
a legit import should have either a blue plate in qld (with code lo1 and a surrogate vin supplied by TMR) or a yellow plate for more other countries a personal import may not have a local vin at all but i know that NONE of these should even remotely resemble a factory issued vin

pm a link to the for sale add and i'll look over it's photos to see if anything else is sus

For you to be able to register and insure it as a genuine evo 3 in every state of Australia, it would need a yellow (personal import) or green (low volume) compliance plate. There was a Victorian scheme that allowed legal rebuilding however not every state allows you to register these cars but that car you're looking at doesn't fit this description.

http://www.lancerregister.com/art_evo1to3guide.php

All RS evos I've seen have pillar mounted antennas (except evo 10), no rear wiper, have black mirrors and door handles.

From the above link

" There were minor external differences between the GSR and RS. The RS did not have body coloured wing mirrors or door handles, and the side skirts of the E3 GSR were not fitted to the E3 RS. Neither do the RS's have the rear fog lamps/reflectors of the E1-3, instead they have a plain black panel. The GSR also features an electrical radio aerial mounted on the rear wing, the RS has a basic aerial mounted on the drivers side A-pillar."

"Rear wiper. No RS came fitted with a rear wash wiper. The GSR did."

Hey summer summer, thanks for your help and input, invaluable !!

I dug hi and lo with my limited knowledge/google and couldnt get all of what you did.

Cheers !!

I've got an evo one... And it doesn't have a yellow plate of a blue plate. It's insured as an evo one with sgio.

Also got an evo three that has had some creative welding done. It is registered as a gsr and insured as a gsr.

No one at the insurance joint even checks the car... So how the fuck are they going to know. Even if it is in a prang... As long as the numbers match up they don't dig any deeper.

You're right, not every import has a compliance plate, just like the Vic rebuild scheme I mentioned earlier in the thread.
Your evo one had to have had a form of an import approval from Canberra (except in the case of an internal scandal that happened at Vicroads where 2 employees where registering cars without compliance while they where still on the boat and Vicroads had to pay to comply those vehicles correctly a few good years later), would you know what type of import approval your vehicle had?, if not what are the first 10 characters of your VIN?

In the past there was a white state identification label that was issued by the SA government to vehicles that where imported. For those vehicles that ventured out of state to the east had to get compliance plates of the appropriate color manufactured by Niddrie Nameplates (the only place in Australia that makes compliance plates).

Regarding insurance, you're also correct about them not digging deeply when insuring the vehicle as they like to take the money. Problems start to occur when they have to pay you out or if the panel beater tips them off, it's then problems can occur.
