Hey guys i have just purchased a vr4 4g63t engine that i will be retro fitting to a 1972 GB Galant, so you may see me on here asking some stupid questions:blink:, im looking to get between 350 to 400 rwhp to start with and go from there, it is going to be mainly set up as a drag car so should be stupidly fun to drive. :w00t:

welcome to the boards,

what gearbox are you going to be running in it?

good luck with your project, hope we can help out

gearbox

2 options for gearbox,
1 supra 5spd with adaptor plate
0r 2 baby 904 auto out of scorpian ment to be very strong

I did a VR4 conversion in my fathers starion, and put the 904 scorpion auto in it.no real modifications available for that auto,eg no shift kit or stall convertor available.with factory 1900rpm stall the starion did 1/4 mile in about 25seconds.Real slow!!!!

we eventually put borgwarner type 40 auto out of a xf falcon with sigma auto bell housing and tail housing.put 1st stage shift kit with 2800 stall converter that will slip up to 3200rpm.problem was real slow take off cause vr4 motor didn't get full torque till nearly 4000rpm.about 16seconds 1/4 mile.
A lighter car might be better.

also if you have a gb galant that was a manual, then your gearbox tunnel needs belting out to make it fit.unless you get an auto model, they have a bigger tunnel.

and whatever auto you get make sure you get the flexplate, convertor and spigot at the same time.hard to find those parts, especially for the 904.

if you check out austarion.com
that would be a good start on what you will need to do and there are some good ideas on there too!

where do i get the flexplate from and spiot

Welcome mate. Good choice of project. The ga/gb where the best lookin 70's mitsu. I used to have a ga with a toyota 4age 20valve ten years ago. I was goin to fit the 4g63t , but was not legal. Where in qld are you?
Shoukd also check out the classic colt forum. The moderator has a ga coupe. He owns a fabricating bussiness so have some tips. I'll get a link to the site you can not find it.

Oldcolt is his user name

if you go to the wreckers and get the flexplate, torque convertor and spigot out of a GH to GJ sigma for borgwarner gearboxes. The spigot is the bush that centralises the torque convertor on the flexplate and crankshaft. For the Ma904 you need the stuff out of a scorpion.

Hers were im at.
Got the 4g63t out and pulled apart ready for timing kit and gasket kit,
getting ready to pull the 4g32 out of the galant
then comes the fun part mocking it all up for fitment
