Guys,

This question may have been answered but couldn't find it:

Can I use a VR4 ECU in my Evo 1-2-3?
What mods are required?

Reason why I ask is because ECM link make a full version for the VR4 but not for EVO 1-2-3.

Thanks,
Alex

Rick - thanks for the links man. Hooking a brother up!

Jack - will do some research.

I just recently received an email from Thomas Dorris (ECM Link). He reckons easiest way is to get a 2G DSM ECU as this is a straight plug-n-play (unlike VR4 that has different pin connections).

So with that said, I should be searching for an RVR ECU, correct?

So had an email come back from Thomas Dorris re: VR4 or 2G ECU into an Evo1/2/3:

> Do you offer a service to sell an already socketed 2G DSM ECU?
We only have a few 2G DSM ECUs in stock, but I can probably make one available to you.
This does get more complicated, though. I just remembered that the early EVOs are a mix of 1G and 2G technology. It's a 1G datalogging cable but a 2G ECU pinout. And neither a 1G or 2G DSM ECU will accept an EVO chip.
So you would need to wire in an additional datalogging port to use a 2G DSM ECU and you would need to replace your EVO3 package (chip and cable) with a 2G version.
To run a 1G DSM ECU, you would have a HUGE rewiring task and then you would still need to swap your chip out anyway.
I think I see why nobody has bothered before.

So from my understanding, you need to wire in the obd2 plug (2g compatible) and the rvr style cam and crank sensor, or change yours around (read roadraceengineering page about 1gina2g) then maybe u can use the rvr ecu and ecmlink chip. But you need to confirm you can chip the rvr.

Its not that much work if you are capable

Wiring in a obd port should t be all that hard all the pins are available so should be a fairly easy install even if its only put right next to the ecu with short wires as opposed to in the drivers side foot well

Just switch to map, opens it a bit more.. And I do like the late model ecu and Evo scan, but already invested in ecmlink

Sorry did you mean SD mode? If so, I'm on the verge of that. I have the MAP sensor/air temp sensor from ECM, just need to wire it up! I'm shattered I didn't get the AFM adaptor tho..would have been a neat as job with it.
