i have a 6 bolt VR4 bottom end with a evo 3 head in my evo 3. Does any one know what timing covers need to be used for this combo? Thanks

I had this problem when I Baught new covers for my vr4 4g63 in a gsr. I ordered the VR4 side cover and it is different around the passengers side engine mount, I just dremmaled it out around it and looked fine. I think I payed around $200 for the lower cover. Im pretty sure I had to cut out around the hole is for the crank as well. The problem Ive noiced with the vr4 lower cover is 1 peice and looks a pain to take off in the car where the evo 1-3 is 2 peice lower cover and comes off around the engine mount.

I thought it was determinrd by the front of enginr mount. If you using a evo mount, you need evo covers. If you using vr4 horseshoe mount, modified or not,you need the vr4 covers.

But as said, you can mod the vr4 covers to clear the evo mount

I think even with the Evo mount on the vr4 block, the cover doesn't line up exactly.

All the ones I've seen still use the single piece cover but slightly trimmed to make it work.

Anybody else have any feedback?

I have the vr4 block and head with the evo engine mount and trimmed vr4 cover. I was told that with the VR4 engine mount in a gsr that it does not sit in the right location where as the evo mount sits it in the same location as the 1-3 evos. Here a pics of how the cover fits on mine vr4 4g63 in cc gsr.

Just checked on my vr4 and evo 1 engines- vr4 cover mounts to 2 of the 3 holes with the evo (1) head on the vr4 block, no probs that I can see. Doing this and modifying where the evo mount goes through would seem to be the easiest solution. Evo bottom cover on vr4 block requires some small modification to fit, the bottom right mount point around the oil pump isn't the same (sticks out too far) and it's not exactly the same shape around that corner either. Rest of the mounting points are look the same though. Can't find evo mid cover at the mo so can't comment on that. If you want pics i'll put some up.
