VR4 gearbox

A mate of mine has a GSR lancer and is wondering if a VR4 gearbox will bolt up to the GSR motor? Or what is needed?

Thanks mate, so it is possible but with a bit of fiddeling around..

No won't work as CC Has engine mount on G/Box and VR4 Eng mount on the block but if you want to fit an Evo box to a VR4, then no worries

Well it's debatable !!! I have had problems with both !! but mainly 3rd gear is the weakest link in both boxes, most vr4s are upgraded to evo boxes for the gear ratio's & avail on parts to rebuild

actually here in NZ its the other way round,evo owners are upgrading to vr4 ratios to help with drag racing-namely avoiding having to change into 5th if their car is fast enough

i had a disscussion a few years back with a ralliartNZ workshop and alot of their evo race cars were being rebuilt with vr4 gears as they were apparantly stronger/heavier than evo's im yet to be convinced of that but id have an evo gearbox with ratios changed to the 3.545's

Ok but my question was the RS gearbox, is it any stronger then the standrard vr4/evo? It is already the same ratio as evos...

Are evo boxes cheaper then rs boxes??

Be careful when you say "RS" boxes and the early pre facelift RS vr4's came out with the KM box, not the W5 box which was carried through to the early evos (but with some changes).
