I figure while the engine is out I may as well replace the Oxygen sensor and the Knock Sensor.
Meek has them, but only offers the Oxy sensor in a 4 wire item. The sensor I have on my Vr4 is just a single wire item.

Anyone have any good/cheap places to buy direct replacement oxy sensors and Knock sensors from?

Any generic single wire O2 sensor from Repco/Motor Traders etc will be ok for the job. They all essetially put the same voltage out ! I wouldnt expect to paty more than $60.

aren't you going to run the wolf mate?

what do you need the o2 and knock sensor for?

are you going to run closed loop?

Yeah I will be running the Wolf. I don;t have the funds available to me at the moment to buy the necessary Wideband gear. I would love too, but this build has pretty much taken every dollar from every pay since January.

if you use the wolf, you dont need the knock sensor or the o2 (you run a map sensor open loop)

just get it tuned right =)

I wouldn't be ruling out the knock sensor entirely. Running without one is great if your tune is 100% spot on... just don't get a bad batch of fuel etc

For those of us still using the factory ecu, you can replace the single wire o2 sensor with a 4 wire one, just connect the signal wire to the loom and ignore the other 3 wires.

i replaced my O2 sensor with a bosch single wire i purchased from Mr Cyborg (Autobahn) around $75 i think

I think I would still prefer to have my knock and o2 sensors.

I found some guys on Ebay, but what the hell is with them not accepting PayPal. There is a fee of like $35 from my bank to wire cash from Aust. to the States.

Having a knock sensor and 02 sensor is useless if your running an aftermarket ECU in closed loop.

You'll often find that its actually more than $35 to transfer the money over, because if the person your sending the money too's bank isnt affiliated with your bank, then it's another $20 or so fee to get it from your bans's affiliate bank in the U.S to the person your sending the money too's bank......

Why are they useless? I want to understand more about the aftermarket ECU world. Cant the information still be sent through to the Wolf and the data be used in datalogging? Also to see if adjsutments are needed? a Map sensor is not gonna tell you if your running rich.

I run an O2 sensor in mine, and it's far from useless, the car runs better with closed loop, and uses noticeably less fuel just puttering around. Plus it passes a no load emissions test.

Unless the wolf doesn't have closed loop?

The knock sensor is still useful too, you can't guarantee that you will tune the car for the hottest day, plus sometimes you get issues and the knock sensor can help indicate that there is a problem (timing goes out, etc.)

doom machine, what ecu do you run?

the wolf doesn't utilise a knock sensor, you could run it as an AUX input, but how accurate is a knock sensor???
the wolf has wideband o2 which is much better than a knock sensor.
but if you dont have the knock or wideband, you could easily purchase an aftermarket knock sensor (knock link from LINK)... AVO sell them for like $160.00 or so...

As for o2, the wolf will have a wideband if its a late model one,
and closed loop, ideally it would be good, but if its been tuned correctly, a MAP tuned vehicle should be sufficient.

As long as the accell enrichment and decel enrichment has been setup correctly with acurate compensation tables also...

I am no tuner, but I can find out more information for you.

My car has a Haltech E6k.

I think what you are suggesting is correct Baz, to run a wideband and ensure you have perfect AFR's - but.. does the wolf allow it under full throttle? Surely that would be more like the "auto tune" feature in the autronic?

Also, does auto tune run all the time (ie closed loop at all throttle levels)?

Tuned correctly is relative, I get a lot of mixed information from automotive professionals (for example today two different exhaust people told me two exactly opposite things). When the guy who does my tuning now was discussing the previous state of tune, he said that it was obvious to him it had only been tuned properly for full throttle... I think Jonson is still right to be cautious, shit happens to cars, and the more feedback you expect from it, the more likely you'll notice when something is awry. A knock sensor is the oil pressure gauge of modified cars :D
