Just wanted to verify something. I have been looking for a replacement tailshaft yoke for my eterna zr4 for a while now,but no one seems to have one. Anyway while i was cleaning up and sorting my spare parts out from my old school early 80's lancer and galant stuff i come across a tailshaft yoke. This yoke from a rear wheel drive gearbox fits into my vr4 transfer case and the spline seems to be perfect. I dont have an oil seal in the case so i dont know if the OD is the same size, and i havent gotten around to checking the uni yet. I know that 1980 lancer uses what they call a 25mm uni joint. Has anyone ever tried this out before?

You can get the yokes (new revised version that doesn't leak) from mitsubishi.

Travis (SIVART) can get them for you. They go for about $250 or so from memory.

Post up a pic of the one you have, interesting!!

I did some measuring of the yoke and seems to use the same uni joint. But that is if my spare uni joint which i kept for the vr4 tailshaft hasn't been swapped with my other spare joints. As i said before though i haven't been under the car to really check the original. But here are some pictures i took. If it doesn't fit or i can't machine it to fit then i suppose i will have to get a new one.View attachment 7393

I have some old and new VR4 uni joints at home if you want to check measure them. Tim should have the communal sealed spare yoke as well unless that's been lent to someone else.

You may just need the dust cover for that yoke to work on the vr4.. (to keep the crap out of the xfer seal area....

Rob, have you seen many aftermarket vs genuine unis??? I'm just wondering if there is a significant difference in qaulity....

I've only ever replaced flogged out geniune ones with Repco ones (as supplied by both Repco and Meek).
The Repco ones have grease nipples, whether that makes then any weaker, I don't know.
But I've also never been involved with a VR4 that makes enough power to snap the uni's. ;)

The one I broke was the repco type. Im considering trying an oem one and giving the vr4 another run.

I know the Repco ones are also listed as being for Pajeros and L300's etc so I can't imagine them being built to take a lot of power.
What do the guys in the US use?

Funny, I would have thought that you would qualify in the "fast" category.

It's good to have a weak link in the drive train somewhere, may as well be the uni's, at least they are easy and cheap (relatively) to replace at the track if you need to.

Strange Barry, I think that Rollo was on a stock box and driveline when he was running mid 9's not long ago.
I say you wack it all back together and go for it mate :D
