From a facelift monte Carlo from what i could tell..

Seems to be 3.545
Markings are C51PH
output spline count is 22.
Selects and changes fine,car had done approx 130 K

$350 ono
Want it gone.

Have the xfer case also..which is all alloy.
 
I dont think so...i dont htink the gearbox is either..unless you can see otherwise by the photos..
 
c50ph is a switchable box, so i assumed the c51 was aswell

do you have any pics of the side of the transfer case and the back of the box?
 
Nah I have a c51.. it's a pre-facelift box, alloy transfer plus non-switchable.

Apparently it's not as tough as W5 boxes, so no 200wkw unless your game :D (in particular the alloy t-case is not as good, not cause the case is alloy but when they switched to the later transfers, they revised the bearing design, and the older ones are much more prone to failure).

$350 for a working awd gearbox + transfer is still a freaking bargain though.
 
Ive been on this case for a while and im still confused...

This box came out of a car with the following

Small 16 G
Vented bonnett
Facelift Bumpers and driving lights
Bigger intercooler and piping.
Front bumper with a lower cut-out for air to be drawn into intercooler.
Twin pot brakes with 276mm Discs
Black in colour..from what i could tell it was a Monte/Super VR4



Tag on the firewall had stampings

W5M33 3.909
Im pretty sure though it was an E39a

Now to me Id think its a facelift 3.909 box
But here are only 22 splines on the output shaft..so it must be a 3.545..a W5M33 3.545

and apparently the C51 Ph are 3.545..like the Auspec has
And yes the transfer case is alloy..all alloy..and i see no switching levers at all..

Talk about confused..can anyone clarify..?

Below is a pic of the cooler that the car had..(the silver cooler)
(the bonnet is visible as well,with the underside heat garnish for the vents)

And the larger piping that it had..[pipe with stock B.O.V] (60mm piping)

Someone blew the monte gearbox or swapped it out for the early box cause they wanted a 3.5 rear? As far as I know, alloy t-case = pre facelift, plus it's a c51ph, plus its 3.5... just cause the tags on the car say 3.9 doesn't mean someone hasn't swapped it out.
 
I cant beleive no one needs a gearbox..or knows someone that needs one

Especially knowing how VR4's are

It came from a jap car,late model monte/super.

Not sure if its aus compliant,i think the spline counts might be the same on this box though


Refer to my earlier post,i think i included the spline count somewhere,i can also check it...Anyone know the Ausspec spline counts?

i think its a ..a W5M33 3.545 ..with 22 splines


youd have to find out what the auspec boxes are,i have a feeling it would work though.
