I CAN CONFIRM GENUINE WALBRO PUMPS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH EBAY ID "UDDOG06" WHO GETS THEM PERSONALLY SENT OVER TO AUSTRALIA FROM THE U.S. IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE FROM HIM, TELL HIM MODEL GSS342 AND INSTALLATION KIT 400-847. MEEK ALSO SELLS GENUINE WALBRO FUEL PUMPS. THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS PICTURE BELOW. NOTE: MITSU INSTALLATION KIT NUMBER 400-847 IS PRINTED ON THE BAG AND DOES NOT COME WITH THE RUBBER HOSE. ALL WALBRO FUEL PUMPS ARE COATED IN A THIN FILM OF OIL FROM THE FACTORY AS THEY ARE ALL TESTED UNDER STRINGENT QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES BEFORE BEING PACKAGED AND SOLD :D

NOW WITH VIDEO COMPARISION HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7102yaOA2jk . First shiny pump is genuine Walbro, second pump on ground is the fake, then cuts back to the third genuine Walbro pump. Notice the distinctive difference in sound between the two. The Walbro actually sounds like it pumps, whilst the fake sounds like some cheap toy drill!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

OK boys, I know some of you actually went out and bought Walbro Fuel pumps from EBay or other sources and just letting you know that you could have a FAKE.

What I have found out recently is that these non-Walbro pumps have been in circulation for over 12 months and are cheap Chinese fakes that are very poor quality, can be noiser than the true Walbro, wont hold fuel pressure and dont flow anywhere near as much!!! [seems like a lot of cheap Chinese fake crap is about lately - wierd thing is that there is a Walbro plant in China that I am unsure if it is associated with Walbro USA or not, but we could be experiencing bad quality control or 2nd rate surplus pumps being sold unbranded].

READ THIS:
http://fuel-pumps.net/walbro-forgeries.html
http://www.exelife.com/blog/automotive/walbro-fuel-pump-forgeries-who-knew.html

The Walbro GSS342 models are meant to be car specific and kits come as follows:
Installation Kit 400-791 (Subaru WRX or STI 02-05)
Installation Kit 400-847 (EVO 1 2 3 or 8; Lancer 1.8 Turbo CC 4WD 92-96; Eclipse 95-98 )
Installation Kit 400-846 (Civic 92-00 or Integra 94-01)
Installation Kit 400-765 (Supra 94-98 )
Installation Kit 400-826 (Accord 94-97)
Installation Kit 400-865 (Prelude 97-01)

When I bought mine a couple of years ago it had the Walbro stamping on the side of it and product number, but when Mik-e got his it was just plain looking with no markings [links above prove that even the fakes have markings just like the real deal!!]. When we called the guy who sold it to him to confirm if it was the genuine article he said that it was the newer model and that they didnt have the stamping  . This could be the reason why Mik-e has been having fuel delivery problems in his car as his fuel pump works intermittently (sometimes it works properly, sometimes it doesnt) !!!!! Those who came to Newcastle Autosalon would remember that his car wouldnt start up because it wasnt getting fuel. To get it going I wired in thicker gauge wire and a relay and it worked... but Mik-e has been telling me that it still works intermittently :x Time for a new pump dude, at least you know what the problem is now :)

Examples of some back up proof that you will find in a few forums around the traps:

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

dam ebay, too much fake crap...

theres also fake SD cards on there too that look nearly identical to real scandisk brand ones, yet all the fake stuff have the same problem, they dont perform good at all.

best off to buy parts from a shop.

i bought mine from ebay.. dodgy packaging, it was missing the 3cm of fuel hosing needed for the install, the warranty looked homemade, french? instruction manual, and unusually quiet.
however, it works great so far (@18-20psi) and no longer cuts out like the standard pump did. the seller claims it's genuine with a guarantee & warranty.
point is.. genuine or not, it works a treat and the dood is in melbourne so you can kick his arse if it f$%ks up on you.

Mine came from ebay and i ahve french instructions, however got proper business card and invoice so not worried. If it doesn't work i take it back :D

This one looks to be genuine on Aussie EBay (note that original Walbro are meant to be shiny!!! and this kit also comes with rubber hose and red cap as pictured)

BUT AFTER I PURCHASED ONE AND RECEIVED IT TODAY - 20/10/06 IT IS NOT THE UNIT AS PICTURED ABOVE IN THE AUCTION!!!!

THE ONE I GOT IS A DULL GREY UNIT AS PICTURED BELOW WITHOUT THE ADDITIONAL RUBBER HOSE AND HAD A DIFFERENT FILTER ON IT. IT ALSO CAME WITH FRENCH INSTRUCTIONS!!! - DEFINITE FAKE - IM ASKING FOR A REFUND!!!

It was sold by a registered company in Australia called TUFFCARPARTS giving Tax Invoices and Warranty - but let me assure you once Branko, Managing Director of Tuffparts found out about this today he said he will offer a full money back refund and will contact his supplier immediately - he knew the unbranded ones were fake but didnt know that now even the branded ones are fake too!!! Full credit to Branko for exceptional customer service!!!!!

I bought a pump recently from a vendor (I'll leave out the name in case he thinks im vendor-bashing - im just concerned).

Code:
dodgy packaging, it was missing the 3cm of fuel hosing needed for the install, the warranty looked homemade, french? instruction manual

Mine came in a plain white box with white label, no fuel hose, no warranty and no instruction manual. Should I be concerned??? I haven't put it in yet

if i was you Dan, i wouldnt use it.

how much did you pay for it? i can guarantee that a new engine is gonna cost A LOT more when the bitch stops flowing....

I've been doing my project for over 6 years and I have saved a lot of info and pics over the years which are good to refer back to from time to time.
Here's a pic I found on my computer of a Walbro GSS342 installed in an EVO/GSR cradle from a while back, well before the fakes came into circulation.
It does actually show that the Walbro are indeed shiny compared to the fakes that are dull.
Part number stamped in it is GSS342.

I got mine from tuffparts too.

Was he willing to replace with real item??

I don't really want to have to find another one :S

Cheers
Cade

Its up to you Cade, I sent mine back to Tuffparts for a refund. In the meantime I've bought the genuine article through Meek and another one through UDDOG06 on EBay for my brother's car. Im not going to risk over $10,000 worth of engine on a $200 part thats for sure, or spend good money on a day off work, trip to Sydney, and set up the AWD dyno only to have fueling issues and then have to pack up early because the fake Walbro cant deliver

I got a cheap fake one off city ford but it is quiet as and has no probs keeping up with the fuel needed

Friend bought a fake off city ford aswell. Then he started having all sorts of issues, car wouldnt boost, pump was quiet. Put the factory pump back in. car back to normal. He got a refund and went and bought the rearl deal.. apparently city ford have had quite alot returned as they didnt ask any questions and happily refunded the money..

Filmed this whilst changing my brothers fake Walbro over to the genuine article tonight. You could instantly tell you had a real Walbro when the car started up from the whine :) He left not long ago and just called me up to say that the car actually seems to have more power now too :)

I beleive there is a fake Walbro in my EVO :fuuuuu:

I'm looking at pulling it out tonight to take a look.

I will upload pics tonight of what I find
