Hey guys
There's been an increasing amount of batteries heating and swelling up in the Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phones since their introduction into the Aussie market back around May 2013.
Now that its been in market for a few months, alarming numbers are being returned back to mobile phone shops with customers pissed off that they have to return the mobile phone and the battery in for inspection under warranty.
It just happened to my wife's S4 and the guys at the phone shop today confirmed that it is a known problem. Searching the internet there are many more cases coming to light during the last few weeks.
It hasn't been conveyed whether its a battery defect or whether the phone is overcharging the battery, however, I believe Samsung should be proactive and broadcast an immediate safety alert to the general public. They haven't done so yet probably because they still have thousands of these things in boxes in stores and nobody will buy one if they recall them.
In the meantime if you own an S4 or know somebody who does, check the condition of the battery to ensure that it isn't experiencing excessive heat and has swollen up because other than very poor battery life, in extreme cases the swollen batteries may leak or even explode.

I do some rc aircraft stuff to fill time, mainly multirotors. One thing I know, those lithium batteries whether they be the ion or poly dirivitive, are fuck'n bad news when they go puffy.

There are many a story of burnt out cars at model fields, garages burnt down and dudes with lifetime scaring in the tops of their thighs because they had a battery go poof in the pocket. All these from a $14 dollar battery from hobbyking. Now we are carrying the same things around in our pockets, cars and workplaces, without a second thought. I use a charge bag when I charge my lipoloy batteries which is really just like an asbestos sock, to contain a burning battery if it should go poof on the charger. This was learnt the hard way.

Google 'lipo fire' to see some video of what happens, and the only real difference to the battery in your phones are the fact they are a bit smaller. They will still set fire to your bedside table, car and leg. Oh yeah, we take millions of these onto planes everyday now too.

They will try and get away without a recall as long as they can, it wont be until someone gets burnt by one, but even then you won't hear about it because the victim will be buried it hush cash.

(God your a cynical bastard George.....)

I charge my s3 every night and never had an issue, I was told never to let the battery drain flat as it stuffs the battery

Also make sure you use the correct charger pack

That's just a load of bullshit about using 3rd party batteries. I bet that's what Samsung are saying to cover up the truth.
We got Kirsty's S4 in June so its not much more than 3 months old.
Shes been using the OEM battery and charger lol
Took it to a mobile shop today and she has a loaner... lets see what happens.
