hey people
sorry if this topic has already been posted but i just wanted to find out wat kind of FMIC that people are using for there GSR wat size cooler and size piping im looking to buy a new FMIC but donno wat size and whould a 3inch outlet fit or isit to big??

I was looking at fitting a Ford XR6T intercooler, I recon it will be able to be fitted up with the stock piping with about 2-3 extra bits of pipe/bends/reducers/etc.
I got an E6 cooler with piping to go into my car, so the ford one is just sitting there, PM me if you are interested in it.

Vr4 intercoolers are a good size and fit well behind a gsr factory front bar (not much cutting)

ive got one for sale if your interested.

Jon

the good thing is he won't need to do any front bar chopping (saw this pic from you on gsr-evo forum)

so i reckon go the usual evo 1-3 cooler + piping - generally around $500-$700 depending where you get it (vendor, ebay, private, etc.)

if you want to go the extra mile, meek piping kits pretty good
http://meek.com.au/index.php?v=Product&id=116&pcid=4

just depends on how much money you want to spend.

personally i would bin the stock evo piping.. its way too long.. even the meek kit which follows the factory path is too long..

if u were.. get an evo cooler with aftermarket piping or get an aftermarket cooler with piping to suit!

dont get factory piping route.. its wayyyy too long.. only good for tarmac/race cars because it looks stock and they can hide it within the regulations.. for pure street car aftermarket is the only way to go.

Thats a hybrid cooler behind my evo 2 front bar.. fits very nice and snug!

THis thread interests me, as I am deliberating getting (a larger) one to match my evo 1 bar being fitted to my stock GSR after some front end damage.

I have been quoted to have an aftermarket one fitted to suit for about $850. Not sure if this is new or not, but I do like the idea of a genuine one from CVAP, which is a bit cheaper, but then still needs to be put in.

Is a new aftermarket cooler going to offer better performance? I am not after a bigger size (stock e1-3 size is fine) as I don't really want to lose my low end torque which I love from the small turbo.

Is the 850 reasonable also? I guess it sounds pretty good considering its only 150 more than just the genuine cooler.

has anyone tried fitting a hybrid behind a std gsr front bar? i would do this if possible. i needed to chop a bit with the EVO cooler and wouldnt mind chopping more to squeeze a larger cooler in.

cheers

Im with Jon

Better off buyin a 600x300x76 cooler and get some custom piping made up... 2.5" hot side and 3" cold side

i dont think you whould be able to fit a bigger cooler in a gsr front bar its way to small you whould have to do some major cutting and then the bar whould just look gay hahaha

Yeah you might as well do a vr4 style just like jstyle over the exhaust manifold and heat up all the air from exhaust manifold then shorten the route and give it no time to cool down a bit before going into the IC for minimal gains on a street car with some extra mods

Factory route is much better IMO for more ways than 1, straight bolt up, and no custom piping head aches and $$$ and you can do it yourself with very limited hands on mechanical knowledge.

And if its only good for tarmac/race cars why then did Mitsubishi make this route for their factory production street cars

Ok.. so this route is wrong.. then why did they do it for a VR4? i think u just fucked urself there buddy. It has been proven that this method (shortest route) has actually made a car come onto boost about 500rpm quicker then the evo style way..

why do the do the evo route from factory? to restrict power. why is there a silencer factory in the intercooler piping setup? to restrict power and also restrict noise..

if you modify a car you want no restrictions..

i rest my case ;) your turn wicky wicky wicky

Jon

PS: if your interested in the factory path route.. theres a place that meek buys off that sells them for like $500 from memory which is about $300 cheaper then what meek sells them for.. search the forums.

What the fuck does meek piping kits have to do with this topic
You really have to learn to get over your shit with Meek bro its getting fucken old tired and its a blatant stab at someone in this community's businesses & livelihood Mods should delete this cheap stab!

this isnt an dig its just MHO as stated for a DIY job not all on these boards follow your opinion and take it as gospel and that's the B all and end all.

But Hey just do what ever jstyle says as he's an experienced fluff boy & everyone is doing what he says like puppets  and no one has a brain of their own.

meh mine goes over the mani on an evo1 spools up bout 400-500 quicker with adequate heat sheild and heat wrap there is no issue of heat soak...

Ebay a cooler ;).

On my lancer i had a custom cooler made to my specifications.

but i spent big $$$ on custom cooler, custom piping.

race radiators in dandenong can supply a 600x300x76 core tub ena dfin to support 500hp and last time it was around $400.. thats no end tanks though. BUT!! then you can get the tanks made the way you want.

ie entry one side exit the other. or entry and exit on 1 side. can get a core that will flow air top down instead of left to right, this is supposed to work really well.

2.5" in and out is plenty. no need for 3" out, I dont see the point unless your making massive amounts of power.

good luck with your choice.
