What should the water temp be, at full operating temperature?

Also, what temperature is the fan supposed to come on at?

at the moment with the weather being the way it is, my water temp sits around 70 degrees, give or take while cruising.

when sitting in traffic, it goes up to about 83 degrees.

during summer sitting in traffic is sits up about as high as 86-87 and when cruising, high 70's.

check your thermostat as mat said

I have a 14" davies craig fan which works well, never really goes over 80

I did get a lower temp thermostat just to run alittle colder(72 deg's instead of 78)

fuck i dunno

i hope this is easy to fix

the car has always run a bit hot, since like march 2006
i drove up to NSW, and it kept overheating...

i replaced the thermostat once, and flushed out the radiator a lot of times, didnt fix it.

afas put a new radiator in, and it stopped overheating, but it always sat just a bit over half way

water pump has been replaced, all the hoses are replaced, new radiator, new thermostat

i dont understand

we're going to flush out the whole system tomorrow as many times as possible and see what happens

i dont understand why the fans dont come on sooner... :?: :?:

that sounds a bit suss... 97 is pretty close to boiling!

is your thermostat alright?
could it be that the sensor isn't calibrated right?

because, the gauge sits like 1mm over half way...

how can that be 97degrees?

i cant remember if barry hooked up the wolf to control the fans

where do you get the lower temp t-stat from?

if none of the flushing fixes it, im going to try removing the air conditioning stuff and chuck two big thermo fans infront as pusher fans and see if that fixes it

I got it from bursons

do you bleed it properly and get all the air out of the system, this can cause it to run bad and overheat also

I use nulon coolant concentrate also its the best one Ive used and recomend it ( $35 for 5ltrs you only need 2.5ltrs)

ey bro, go get your self a Davis Craig Thermatic Fan Switch, piss off the stock one and wire that one in (only 2 wires). at least you can controll when your fans come on, and set it up to turn on just after the Thermostat opens ...... should fix ya problem.....

Where is the stock one? inside the radiator?

i have to find out if my wolf is wired to control the fans or not first

........ your running a wolf ecu? would be a good reason if its controlling the fans, and your problem with overheating. if you must, let the wolf run a small davis craig fan to make the damn thing happy, but run the stock fans wired to a Mechanical Thermal Switch (Davis Craig...) but make it stand alone. i'm fairly sure the stock fans have way more air flow then the aftermarket ones........

when barry was installing the wolf, he asked me if i wanted the wolf to control the fans, but i cant remember which way he ended up wiring it up

i could just get a thermometer and stick it in there and see what temperature that reads it at... see if the calibration is off

i know somone else on here was running a Wolf on there VR4 and had the fans controlled by the Wolf.... but never worked...... might have been Pete's car (phaser)...

and your stock thermo switch for the fans, is next to the bottom hose on the radiator..... if i remember correctly...

hey taco,

you dont have to worry about the fans dude.
its switching on via the stock temp sensor in the bottom of the radiator.

the wolf is using the stock sensor which was calibrated manually.

the temp that the wolf shows is only used as a reference for the wolf/calibration tables.

your cooling system is working fine.

so it isn't actually 97degrees?

well that is a relief

i was hoping that if i fixed that problem, i could get the car to run cooler and then maybe that might fix the detonation problem in the top end...

does anybody know the temp the fans kick in?

the wolf is not controlling the fan, as they run independantly with its own sensors...

can you hear it pinging top end?
if it is, get it checked out with dan,
get some timing pulled out if it is pinging, richen it up...
