Does anyone on here do welding of body panel? This is to replace the dented panel on the rear quarter with a new one, and as such needs to be welded on.

If know one on here does this, do you guys have any recommendations of good plus cheap welders/panel beaters?

Harry / S15ETA has a mate that he works with PM him..

Or the forum sponser Edwards Lake Smash Repairs.

I reccomend you get someone good to do it. I say this because it can ened up in tears if not done properly, you can't really paint on the back side weld of the panel, and inevitablly, it will rust, the problem will be a million times worse though if done by an innexperienced person.

It is however, one of the better ways to go about repairing the rear quarter, good luck with it, pick your panel man carefully.

Jamie.

Must be pretty bad if you have to replace it- why not just smack it out and fill her up? (that sounds dodgy haha)

Too right it does.!
But it can still be done properly

pics? My old car rolled back into a parked car one time and it looked REAL bad but got fixed fairly easily apparently

Go the smack out and fill option. Thats what the panel beater will probably do anyway..

Trust me it looks a lot worse than that pic provided above.

I have removed the interior panel so I can reach some of the places to push it out.

man.. any panel beater should be able to sort it.
Thats their job!

Damn right! Go see a good one, I'd personally recommend me! :D

Seriously just find one local to you. Small independently owned shops are the way to go. Please don't try it yourself if you've really got no idea what you're doing. It's not a four year apprenticeship for nothing to become a beater. I've seen too many of these jobs at work: guy thinks he can fix car, guy fucks car, guy comes into work wanting it done right, guy gets slapped with larger price because it'll take more time to fix now that he's fucked it! I read it on here all the time, but just remember that more often than not a cheap job is a shit job. Especially with having a new panel put on, it's well worth paying a decent price to have it done right. That way you know it's done right, with time spent. And that way it's safe, won't rust up on you, peel paint, fall off, or burst into flames.

PS. there's a bit more to it than smack and fill, damn it.
>.<

Good job there, lucky you didnt really have to do the fuel cap..they can be grief to square up.

I'd leave it alone Richard and let the professionals do all of it. If you take them a job that you've started, then they have that as a fallback if they give you back a car which is not repaired to your satisfaction ("Well, sorry mate, but the damage you'd done trying to fix it just made it too difficult to get right - we tried out best, but HEY")

I'd ring up a few Hot-Rodding places who build custom Deuce Coupes and such for people and talk to those guys. The blokes from work who are into building those sort of old cars etc can do some amazing welding with oxy torches (less harsh on thin body panels than mig or tig), so I'd suggest giving them a call and seeing if they could take a look at your car and suggesting what could be done.

Been to Tech///Sport and they recommended a few places to take the car to, so I will be do that.

Bro you did a SWEET job colour matching the paint- if only I got it fixed before I sold it- would have earned another grand!

clean vr4 by the way adam, is that yours?

Yeah this thing is PRISTINE! So good to see a facelift E39A restored to its former glory! White FTW!!

I say thats repairable, but not without effort. Some might just say replace rear 1/4 - if you do go for repair, try to assess their skill and 'care factor', you don't want someone that is give it a few whacks and bogs it up.
Assume the boot floor is sound and not creased? I'm guessing it should be ok but worth a check.
