Ok guys, I'm looking at doing a 4G36T conversion on my Satria GTi (currently 4G93P with bolt on turbo).

I purchased an engine on ebay and am yet to go and pick it up as I need to travel an hour or so and haven't had time.

Below is a picture of the engine, I picked it up quite cheap on ebay (under $1,700), it came with turbo, loom and ecu and a RWD gearbox for a Starion which I don't need.

The guy I purchased it off insisted it was an evo engine which i would have prefered but don't mind going the VR4 path.

Can anyone tell from this one pic if it is out of a VR4 or an early model EVO?

Any help would be great...

Damn! Thought that might be the case. It did come with a turbo but I'm not sure what size, the engine is in Wollongong and the guy I bought it off doesn't live where it's stored so couldn't give me housing numbers etc.

Does the price I paid seem reasonable? How much power can I expect to get out of one of these with a stock turbo?

im not 100% sure it depends on the conditon of the engine, seems reasonable. if you put an Evo 3 16g on it you would pull decent numbers not to sure about exact but it wouldnt be much less then an actual evo engine i'd assume

Is there anything from the pic that is telling you that it's a VR4 engine rather than an Evo engine?

Looks like I'll have to get some bolt on bits to get some power out of this. I'm assuming an Evo ECU would help things along also?

That engine is a vr4 evo 0 engine, best 1 to get.. Stronger than an evo engine, they come with 510cc ink and a small 16g I believe

Awesome!, so one would assume this thing could handle big boost then?

Thanks for your help EVOCPE, glad I grabbed this when I could, I guess I just need to find a big 16g now and boost the thing?

Also, I'm assuming this will be a 6 bolt flywheel and will bolt up to a gsr/GTi gearbox with ease?

Define Big boost?
I'm currently running over 30psi on a stock VR4 bottom end with a MUCH larger turbo than an Evo 3 unit.

Of course you could blow it up at 15psi with the wrong tune lol

When I say big boost I mean with the allowance of larger injectors and a mild tune. I'm not looking at aftermarket ECUs or anything yet, I'm just trying to get a stock(ish) setup installed and go from there.

Thanks for all of your help with the engine I.D. I'll get some pics up once the conversion has started...

A 16g is more than enough for a Satria GTI...!!

Make the most of what you have I reckon- save your cash and do the timing belt before you put it in

That's the plan jack of all, hopefully won't need to worry about a tune with the factory ecu.

I've done a bit of reading up on this engine and it looks like it does come with a small 16g and the bigger injectors, does anyone know if the exhaust manifolds on these are the same as the evo ones? I'm assuming it would be given the manifold for the 14b's doesn't match up to the 16g without being ported?

hey vinnie, what happened to the bolt on setup...i thought that was going heaps good for ya??

if you wanna upgrade your turbo, ill take the 14b off ur hands =D

Hey mate, bolt on is still going very strong, my car got hit a few months ago and I've been waiting for insurance to sort me out. In the mean time I thought I'd give a 4g63 conversion a go. I'm going to miss not having any lag but I'm hoping the extra cubes will make up for it.

To be honest with you I think I was just getting bored with not modding anything for a few years, there is nothing wrong with my current set up.

Turbo is a 16g so I'll be keeping it , sorry man :)

+1 on the Galant VR4 engine being stronger.
I had one in one of my Starions, and that was an absolute weapon!
202RWKW on 17psi of boost, and it still had more to give.
You have chosen well, whether it be by mistake or on purpose! ;)

Vr4 block is good. :) just make sure u change engine side mount to Evo or it won't fit :) besides that u should be good. Oh u might have to splice looms for power and dash signs too.
