hey guys,

hope you guys can help me out.

i just purchased a cb lancer with a vr4 engine conversion.

there are heaps of wires and connecters/plugs not used or wired/connected up.

i have no idea which ones should be connected and which ones are not in use.

i assume the plugs/connectors that are blank/free are not needed or in use so they should be ok.

but i have one brown long wire in my engine bay doing nothing, i think it should be connected somewhere or else it wouldn't be so long?

any help appreciated.

thanks.

it could be for an aftermarket tacho...maybe...as the coilpacks are over that side...?

there's no aftermarket tacho.

the wire seems to come from down below the engine, possibly down low in the mid of the engine?

coil packs are on the far right i believe? the wire is more towards centre, down low?

hrmm.

just need to know if i should be worrying about it or not.

=)

its probably for the knock sensor.

if the car was originally a NA GSR, it wouldnt have included the wiring for the knock sensor, as the 4G61 doesnt have one.

commonly when doing a 4G63T swap you need to run this wire. it needs to be run from the knock sensor, midway down the back of the block to the ecu inside the car.

its a fairly import wire, as if you dont have it connected the ecu would not be able to tell if the engine is knocking because of high boost/bad fuel etc.

splice the wire, if it has a grounding sleeve around the core, its more then likely for the knock sensor...

i also dont see a MAF and your ISC wire is not connected, i'm taking it your running after market ECU like a Microtech etc.. which is why you have extra wires not being used..

It does look like it goes down to the back of the block, but the knock sensor's wire isnt that long and should have a plug on it?

It doesn't look OEM to me...?

Does it go into a harness or loom at any stage?

Slightly off topic but this stuff comes up great on intercooler piping:

It's called VHT 'Cast Iron'

thanks for the help guys,

yes car has aftermarket comp.

umm.. ok so i followed the wire.. goes directly to midde bottom of engine. has a gold-ish cylinder? and that connects directly to battery.

any takers?

please!

so if you follow the wire towards the back of the block, if it is for the knock sensor it *should* go into a big nut about 24-32mm that is screwed into the block.

if it goes to a "goldish cylinder" that could potentially be the starter motor soleniod. that would explain the other end of the wire going to the battery, correct me if i am wrong?

is the gold'ish cylinder horrizontal or vertical to the engine?

thanks for the reply.

it def goes to a gold cylinder/can looking.

the can/cylinder is horizontal (lef to right flat)

i can see there are bigger/thicker wires from the cylinder/can and it connects to the battery.

thanks

still need help on this guys.

thanks.

ok..

since i can't get a pic of it my actual engine bay as camera won't fit...

the following pic BEST REPRESENTS a 4g63t engine from the back/side.

the red box is ROUGHLY where my wire leads to and there is a goldish/cylinder can looking thing.

there are THICK wires that go to the battery.

so where is my little thin brown wire meant to go?

thanks!

yo kim the last pic is the cold start. but since u got after market ecu.. dont worry bout it and with the ur other doggy wire take the power off.. and get some1 to rewire the knock sensor back to ur eciu.. but yer make sure u have a knock senor connected as it will retard or advance your timming when it does knock.. hope that helps.. =P

hahaha!

i just notice there a boost controller there in the frist pic.. u better hind that shite.. boys in blue love to see that..
