Hey guys,

This is actually my 3rd RVR...

1st was a sports gear with a 2.0 Turbo DIESEL engine!!!!! I flew from the gold coast to pick it up in Sydney thinking it was a 4G63... anyway, got rid of that.
2nd was a blue and grey Sports gear with just an exsaust, went verrry well.
3rd, and now my newly purchased white Hypergear, stock standard til next week (getting suspension and exsaust).

Anyway, i was just wondering what Revs you guys take your RVR's to when your wanting to make an impression??

I take mine to between 6000 and 6500RPM, ive never taken it to rev limiter.

Does the rev limiter kick in at 7000RPM, because ive heard recently it will go all the way to 8000RPM without an issue??

Oh, and are you guys aware that the sports gear has totally diferent gear ratio's than the Hypergear?
For example, my sports gear reved to 110kph @ 7000RPM, but the Hypergear only goes to around 90kph.
And 3rd gear goes to 160kph in the sportsgear, but only 140kph in the Hyper...

Personally i preferred the gear ratios of my older Sports Gear, even the the Hyper Gear is my favourite overall. Plus it was a little better on fuel, because of lower revs.

What are your thoughts??

Lars

I think I've only rev mine to 7000 but I don't like to test the rev limiter. Thats interesting about the gear ratio I thought i'd be the same box.

Where are you getting your suspension done? Down the coast?

Yeah i know, i wonder why the Japanese decided to change the ratios as they upgraded the car over the years?

Im actually swapping my standard suspension and exsaust for another guy with an RVR who has coilovers and his full 3inch system! He's over the modified scene but still loves his car for camping and everyday use. Not bad eh?

Stock rev limiter is 7500rpm.
You'll know when you hit it. I've pushed mine to 7850rpm, with my chip set to 8000rpm limit tho.

still a 4g63 but not a stock one......BC springs. 8500. with a T66 turbo. at those revs and with that turbo you cant hear the engine just the inlet noise from the turbo. ecu was wolf piece of doodoo

current stock 4g63 evo 2 engine in red gsr rev limit is 8000......waste of time pushing it over 7200 tho. ecu is a ecmlite

another gsr I have which also has bc springs AND 1mm oversize valves with the same turbo strangely still pulls at 7500 ecu is a ecmlite.

those valves are really good bang for bucks and in my opinion better than a cam upgrade because the "work and make a difference" all the way from idle to red line

i got my evo 3 limeter set at 8200 rpm its stock never had a prob its been like that for 3 years now using motec ecu though. i have heard not to take them over 8000 rpm though thats why i never went anymore

Mate I'd be interested in the part number for those suspension bits if at all possible. Also how low is it?

I do hope that's not IH8V8S you're stealing the system/coilovers from
Nah, ill send you a pic from the car its from. Why? Whats the deal with IH8V8S?

CDJ84, Ill try and find out for you. I got told the fronts are Koni's that suit the CC Lancer...

IH8V8S is an RVR (my engine builders) which is a 2.2L Stroked 4G63 Machine!
Coilover Fronts, and is pulling exhaust off in his shop tomorrow whilst I prep the engine bay in my car.

So when you said that, I was thinking he decided to offload stuff for no reason! :p

Hahaha, is that engine going in your car??? What sort of HP and quarter mile times is he running? Have you got any pics Matt? Would love to see

Link to his Facebook page.

Look at the photos - Current 4G63 Build.
He hits the Dyno this afternoon I think
E85 - 32PSI, I'll take some snaps when I'm there of his coilovers for everyone too! If I can get his wheels off.

The Sports Gear and Hyper should have the exact same final drive- 3.909!

P.S can you guys start a new thread if you wanna go off topic :)

It must be the same, but you drive both of them and you will see what i mean! Its a big difference!
Like i said, 90ks and 110ks in second and 140ks and 160ks in third... thats the difference between the sports and hyper. Weird huh?

There are many different ratios between the cars
the Diesels are different to Petrol
Sports gear N/A and SSG are different
Auto and Manual are different

There should be 3 different ratio's all up

3.909 - HSG Manual
3.307 - HSG Auto
3.545 - Sports Gear N/A Auto

Confirmed these with Photos of my 3 RVR's..

Fair enough... that makes sence, but still wonder why it's such a big difference between the sports and hyper? I would've thought the hyper would be the one that had longer legs in the gear changes.

Has anyone else driven both in the manual?

I've driven.

SG Auto
SSG Manual
SSG Auto
HSG Auto
HSG Manual

Remember the Hyper has a larger Turbo on the manual Hypers than the Super's.

SSG Auto - TD04
SSG Manual - TD04
HSG Auto - TD04
HSG Manual - TD05-Big16

When it comes to legs, the HSG doesn't lack, it's designed to run well at the power/rev range it runs at. I don't think I'd trust my RVR's over 200km/h by any stretch. On the track I've had the Sports Gear upto 175 and that was dicey, I'll tell you that much! The HSG I never got the chance to take to the track and play, that said though it was responsive down low and was the perfect combination for street

As the manual I now own is getting the rebuild, I cannot comment on the drive-ability as I've not driven it much, however I was a passenger many times and it's quite good!
