I was just wondering what would be the best size and profile and brand of semi slick tyre to run on an 8 inch wide rim. Any recomendations of what anyone has used or can recommend would be great. Im looking at an entry level semi slick tyre for track use that wont break the bank. From what I have seen alot of manufactures us a 45 profile of tyre in a semi slick.

Depends on what size rims you are running and on what car they are going on.
Most later model evos will run a 235/45/17 semi as this is stock rolling diameter, if you were to go a slightly wider tyre or go from a 17 to an 18 you would run a lower profile to maintain the rolling diameter.

Budget and semi slick are two words which generally don't go together, it's the old adage you get what you pay for.....kumho make a lower priced R tyre but they are far from fantastic.
I believe yokohama ao48's have dropped in price a little now that yokohama has released the ao50, they are a very good tyre.

If you are planning on doing just the odd trackday here and there it sometimes pays to scan the classifieds and keep an eye out for a secondhand set, sometimes you can score tyres with quite a few laps left in them for a fraction of new price.

I would love to know how your getting a 8 inch wide rim under your rear guards on a EVO I,II,III.

I have a 7.5 inch rim and run a 215/45/17 Dunlop and it scrapes on the outside inner guard even after the ball hammer treatment. I attempted to fit a 235 Bridestone on the front and it scraped on the shocks.

Remember semi slicks are wider than advertised.

Dunlops

17 215/45R17 220 626 7.0 - 8.5
17 225/45R17 230 631 7.0 - 9.0
17 235/45R17 236 644 7.5 - 9.5

Bridgestone

Tracks 6mm + on tyre size.

I think you want to get a hard profile tyres for longevity and compromise on speed. QR and Lakeside punish the left hand front tyre.

One more point. My suspension guy has told me to run a 7 inch rim with a 215 as the tyre is overly stretched and it adding to my outer edge destruction.
