im nearly 18 and i really want a GSR .. but i dont know if i can drive one on my p's under the new laws.. but if it is completely stock and debadged.. do you think cops will even look at me? also how many kw are they stock?

Under victorian law i'm pretty sure you still sit under the power to weight ratio.
However, since i'm on an open license now i haven't really been paying much attention. I don't think Victoria has brought in the No turbo's for P platers yet but am unsure?
They put out about 141kw at the flywheel which is off memory 90ish kw atws?
Weight is about 1200kg.

Hope that helps a little.... best check Vicroads website and read up on the current laws. I'm a bit tired at the moment to do it.... :)

yer thanx for that it says you can still drive turbos but under power to weight ratio.. and im thinking even gettin a front mount.. spraying it black.. hiding it away.. and doing little things .. it all goes well with the money situation..

are GSR's a good 1st car would you think? and do you know of anyone selling or thinking about selling pretty cheap? l0l..

thanx again

Well theres plenty for sale around in these forums. As for the whole "i'll spray the intercooler black" hate to break it to you but the cops will notice that quite easily. Especially the melbourne TMU.

Installing an Intercooler is LEGAL providing you don't have a pod filter. The thing about turbo cars is, its pretty damn hard to prove the car is over power to weight, providing most of it looks stock (eg. no massive turbo).

As for a first car, any turbo car is going to be costly in maintenance and repairs. You miss a service, or stop looking after it/change the oil, then expect stuff to start going wrong.

Gsr's have they're common problems as do most cars, look around in the Forum, and you'll see a lot of usefull tips around here on how to pick out a good once, and the common problems these cars suffer.

Oh, and don't forget about the price of insurance ;)

yer truee all cars will have problems when you start to get over them or not care about them.. i have been reading as much as i can about the GSR's there is a few little things but every car has some sort of problem nothing is perfect..

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-car...62EA&Model=LANCER&sort_type=2&Make=MITSUBISHI

i seen this and it caught my eye.. what do u think of that.. it looks and sounds 2 good 2 be true.. 11 grand is a bit cheap for that ? am i right?

yeah that thing has low ks and interior looks pretty clean...

but anything can be a good first car if you have money... theres always problems bound to come up..

so pretty much your syaing if you were in my postion and had the money.. you would already have it in your garage? l0l..

if you are going to get one regardless of legalities then:

remove badges, put black inserts instead of the red rear reflectors which come factory with gsr (you never know what cop may be an enthusiast).. and keep it stock such as exhaust etc.

thats the best way to deter any attention to what it actually is.

true.. thanx alot.. now i know i can get one.. im really loookingg into it.. now all i gotta do is try n get a loan of my bank (my mum) l0l..
wish me luckk..

btw.. any good ideas for a number plate for a GSR? something that looks good.. easy to read/understand (for the dumb ones).. and never gets old..

what happens when you get in a car crash? (even if its not your fault)
not many ways to "deter any attention" then...

there are other quick little NA cars around that meet the requirements, like SSS Pulsar, Corolla SX, MX5, Integra TypeR, etc...

I know somone who thought he was cool when he bought his r33 gts-t on his P's. Didnt look so kool when he lost 7points and $500 something fine.

R33 Skyline $15,000
Full respray and some crappy bodylit $4500
Huge FMIC and bonnet gauges $1500
trying to act tuff to the cops writing up his defect notice while taking his license away... priceless

the simple answer is... NO you can't... no turbo or V8's are allowed for p new victorian p platers....

The fine is up to $1300 and 3 points...

Insurance will probably be through the roof aswell.

Best bet is to get something thats not going to draw attention to you for the first 3 years and then get something that you can have some fun with... :)

ay i dont like the idea myself, but if hes going to get one, he'll get one regardless of what anyone here says! he already has custom plates in mind so i think hes pretty serious
this is why i gave some ideas on how to get rid of attention

he knows he's not meant to be driving one - so if he fks up then he has no one to blame but himself

its bad enough you're serious about buying a gsr on P's, dont make it worse with a custom plate - it will draw unneccessary attention which im pretty sure youre already trying to steer clear of

yeah unfortunately now days P-Plate can not drive a turbo charged vehicle (if you got your p's after july last year)

This means everything except for

Diesel turbo
and i think a handful of 600cc turbo cars..

No V8
Cant drive the new commodore or ford 6's as they fall outside the power to weight i believe.

If you are looking at a first car look at a CB Lancer GSR.. twin cam 1.6l non turbo

Pulsar sss N14 2.0L twin cam

Corolla Twinkie

All good cars to learn in :) (I have a CB GSR, its good fun)

yeah fair enough... but i dont think he know how serious the consequence are.

lots of other legal options to choose from

dude i bought an evo when i was 18 my first car... 3yrs ago onli ever got pulled up once and that was because the cop had never seen one and wanted to know what it was didnt help i blew off in his window  unmarked car but if u act like a retard u'll lose ure licenec in a charade or anything lol

yeah true.

look as for keeping a GSR looking stealth like a normal lancer sedan thats easy. you probably wont get pulled over if you stick to this (provided you drive right)

but you're right in saying that there are other consequences such as insurance. if something were to go wrong like he crashed and was at fault and was found to be a p plater driving a turbo vehicle... then ouch....

dont risk it mate,
u'll get pulled over eventually...
and all it takes is a cop to say...ooooooh wats that.. then before u know it he's searching ur car...

the ggsr is serving me well as a first car... just gotta find a good one, and u can pick them up pretty cheap...

they also sound awesome and with a bit of work can look unreal...

keep in mind, im pretty sure you cant perform any mods that alter the performance of the vehicle as a new p plater...

Cop can not search your car without

a) your permission
b) warrant

Having said that. If you say "NO". They will hold you until a warrant is given. :)
